Recently, $16.69 million fraudulent transactions in Queensland Health became headlines, caused to launch investigations, and prompted public awareness about health sector. It is a matter of research to examine what factors contributed to the fraudulent transactions in Queensland Health and what control measures could be taken to detect and prevent such fraudulent activities. Required: (i) Undertake research about the nature and general causes of fraud in organisations. Use 4 refereed journal articles. (ii) Describe the fraudulent accounting transactions undertaken by a fraud perpetrator in Queensland Health. (iii) Analyse the internal control deficiencies and behavioural issues relating to these accounting transactions. Refer to the investigation report/s and at least 3 media articles. (iv) Using your knowledge of the internal control frameworks, explain what measures you would suggest to detect and prevent this type of fraud. Present your assignment in a report format with an executive summary, a conclusion and appropriate references in addition to your responses to the above two requirements.
