Scenario You are an HR Consultant in a small HR consultancy firm and have been invited by a small-sized organisation to provide orientation to them about the various aspects of HR management. This organisation does not have an HR function. Being small sized, it has a flat structure and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) deals with the HR issues herself. In the wake of increased workload and to further streamline the HR functions, the CEO plans to outsource parts of the HR function to your company. You have agreed to offer your services under a short-term contract which seems to be the best possible arrangement for this company due to shortage of funds. Before signing the contract, you have been asked to provide a report to the CEO of this potential client. Task A report mentioning the difference between HRM and Personnel management. In addition, the reasons and the stages of human resource planning, how it contributes towards the organisational goals. The report must also feature the relationship between motivational theories, performance and appraisal system. It should also mention the details of the cessation of the employment, exit of the employees and legislative impact on the cessation of the employment. In your report, you will address the following (make suitable assumptions about the organisation if needed, for your analysis):  In the above scenario of a small organization, highlight the difference in applying personnel management and human resource management. In your opinion, which would be a better approach and why?  Identify which of the various human resource management functions can be feasibly implemented in your client's organization and highlight the benefits to the organization by implementing them.  Considering your client's business size and industry norms, evaluate what roles and responsibilities the line HR managers can perform?  What are the legal and regulatory aspects that must be borne in mind while setting up an effective Human resources-driven workplace for your client? Also suggest ways of evaluating the effectiveness of the processes in the two organizations.  Illustrate the link between motivational theory and reward systems. Also provide pragmatic recommendations to improve workforce motivation.  Prepare a persuasive note to your client highlighting the importance of job evaluation.  As a Human resource person, do you think pay is the only appropriate reward for performance? Evaluate various reward systems in different organizations and contexts.  Presently this organization uses a simple rating form based on some parameters for performance review. This performance review is undertaken by the manager of each employee. Suggest possibly better alternatives for performance appraisal in your client's organization.  Enumerate the various reasons for employee exits from organizations. What would be your recommendations to reduce employee turnover?  How might employee exits differ from one organization to another? Comment on the usefulness of exit interview.  How does the current regulatory and legal framework impact employee redundancies and dismissals? What steps would you recommend to your client in case of a redundancy or dismissal so that they are compliant with the law? To achieve M1, you will have used research skills and creative thinking ability to apply few (at least two or three) motivational theories at your workplace and relate them to the performance and the reward.
