Select 7 questions from the following list to answer. You must answer at least one question from each chapter. Be sure to answer the questions completely, write one to 1 ½ pages, #12 font, with 1 ½ - 2 spaces. The essay must be written in your own words. Avoid long quotes, pictures, graphs, or lists. Use the textbook, class power points, and at least one outside source for EACH question. Be sure to cite your sources and provide evidence to support your statements, and you may provide appropriate examples from your own work place. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation do matter. Chapter 1 – Introduction to Human Resource Development 1. Describe the history, purpose and work of the Association of Talent Development (formerly American Society of Training and Development). In addition to the text book, use their website as an outside source. 2. Describe the roles of both human resource management and human resource development in any organization. What is the relationship between them? 3. Fully describe the three major functions of human resource development (not human resource management). Chapter 2 – Influences on Employee Behavior 1. What are the most significant internal and external factors influencing employee behavior? Describe how they interact to affect employees. 2. Describe and explain two motivational theories and how they predict or explain employee behavior in the work place. Chapter 3 – Learning and HRD 1. Thoroughly describe and explain trainee characteristics, training design, and transfer of training as these relate to maximizing learning. 2. Describe and explain the primary factors in retention of learning? 3. How are adult learning theory (andragogy) and pedagogy similar and different? Be sure to give examples. Chapter 4 – Assessing HRD Needs 1. Describe and explain the different kinds of HRD needs. 2. There are three levels of needs analysis. Define and explain each of the levels and how they can be used to determine training needs for an organization. Chapter 5 – Designing Effective HRD Programs 1. What are the elements and purpose of good learning objectives? What purpose do learning objectives serve in the design of training programs? 2. Why would you, as an HRD professional, buy a training program from an outside source rather than internally design training program? What are the major considerations when making the decision? Chapter 6 – Implementing Training Programs 1. Thoroughly describe and explain the various types of on-the-job training (including JIT and job rotation) and give examples. 2. Thoroughly describe and explain at least four classroom-training methods and give examples. Chapter 7 – Evaluating HRD Programs 1. Most HRD professionals agree that HRD evaluation is valuable. Why isn't practiced more frequently in organizations? How can these objections be overcome? 2. Describe four levels of evaluation that make up Kirkpatrick's evaluation framework. Identify one example of data at each level that might be collected to provide evidence for the effectiveness of a class or training program in which you have participated.
