Assignment title: Information
One view of reality, solipsism, asserts that the mind and mind alone creates the world and one's reality. Does this align with or rest contrary to the view expressed by von Glasersfeld (1989)? Explain. After reading the von Glasersfeld article, how will you create the reality of your doctoral journey as it relates to you own self-identity?Online classroom discussion is a vital learning activity that enhances, writing, critical thinking and scholarly development. These skills establish the foundation for self-reflection and unbiased consideration of other perspectives that enhances the long-term development of the doctoral learner. The successful doctoral learner engages faculty and colleagues in substantive conversations, reflecting on other's perspectives while articulating their own views. More importantly, the doctoral learner demonstrates the disposition to critically and reflectively consider new information, facts, and perspectives in the enhancement of his or her own knowledge and development. To emulate a real-world doctoral conversation, the doctoral learner will participate in the classroom Discussion Forum. The classroom discussion has two components: the learner's original response to the discussion question/prompt and the learner's on-going participation and contribution to the discussion. Each component is graded separately. Initial Post to Discussion Questions/Prompts: The doctoral learner is required to post a substantive initial response to Discussion Question/Prompt #1 on Day 3 (SATURDAY) of the module and Discussion Question/Prompt #2 on Day 5 (MONDAY) of the module. On-going Contribution to Class Discussion: In addition to the initial responses posted on Day 3 and Day 5 of the module, the doctoral learner must also contribute to the discussion by posting three substantive participation posts. A total of five posts are required each week (two initial discussion question answers, and three participation posts). Substantive Participation Posts: Full participation in the discussion is a key component of the learning experience. It enriches group interaction and enhances the doctoral learning environment. To be considered substantive, a participation post (initial or ongoing) should average 150-250 words in length (the reference section is not included in the word count). The post should include appropriate foundation knowledge, be factual, enhance the ongoing dialogue, and include support from scholarly literature. Because of the last requirement, a majority of a learner's substantive participation posts should include at least one citation. However, rather than just reporting what someone else has stated, the doctoral learner should demonstrate application and/or reflection of knowledge such that the learner enhances the meaning of the referenced material. Contributing to the discussion should promote an exciting, vibrant, shared learning community that accomplishes two or more of the following: • Expands on a classmate's comments in a value-adding, topic-related way • Promotes a collaborative, supportive doctoral community • Advances the dialogue through follow-up questions "One-liners," off-topic posts, vague statements, unsupported opinions, and inadequate explanations or posts DO NOT meet the substantive participation requirements listed above. Please DO NOT submit posts as an attachment. I will not count these submissions. ALL POSTS (DISCUSSION QUESTION AND PARTICIPATION POSTS) MUST BE AT LEAST 150-250 WORDS TO RECEIVE CREDIT. I DO NOT PENALIZE FOR GOING OVER THE 250 WORDS. Attendance: Learners must post submit their Discussion Question Answers and Participation Posts on 3 separate days. This is very important. If a learner posts, 2 DQ answers and 3 participation posts on 1 day, then the learner will still need to post on two more days in order to get full credit. Here is an example of what is expected: Learner submits an answer for DQ1 and a one participation post on Friday, then submits an answer for DQ2 on Sunday, and then submits two participation posts on Monday. As you can see the student submitted 2 DQ answers and 3 participation posts on three separate days. All of these posts are over 150 words in length, and the discussion questions are supported with an approved academic reference. YOU CAN ONLY RECEIVE PARTICIPATION CREDIT FOR THE WEEK YOU ARE IN. For example, you CANNOT get credit for submitting posts in module 2 when you are currently in module 3. Summary: Participation in the class discussion provides the doctoral learner an unparalleled opportunity to practice being a doctor. Upon graduation, stating opinions without basis or foundation will be challenged, as it is expected that doctorate level individuals offer broad prospective and insight, which is based on thoughtful and reflective understanding of their discipline rather than mere personal opinions. Please take maximum advantage of this unique learning opportunity. Please do NOT submit your posts as ATTACHMENTS. I CANNOT give you credit for attachments. Please simply type your posts in the text box or copy and paste from word (recommend). GRADING 30 POINTS PER MODULE 6 points for each on-time substantive Discussion Question Answer. A total of 12 points a week can be accumulated. There is a 10% deduction for each day a DQ is late. 6 points for each contributing/participation post to your classmates. A total of 18 points a week can be accumulated for substantive posts. Participation posts can only be submitted during the current week. I cannot accept module two posts in module three. DEDUCTIONS Academic rigor is lacking: Frequent spelling and grammar errors. Learner does not submit posts (either initial or contributing/participation posts) in the Main Forum on three separate days. Learner does not make 2 Initial Discussion Question Answers Learner does not make 3 contributing/participation posts. Initial posts are late. DQ1 is due one Saturday and DQ2 is due on Monday. There is a10% deduction. Discussion Question answers and Participation posts are not substantive (150 word minimum). Discussion Questions answers do not use an academic resource from the GCU Library (Butin textbook is accepted. Websites and Blogs are NOT accepted as acceptable references. Discussion Questions do not have reference(s). Posts do not initiate or further discussion. Posts are submitted incorrectly. NO ATTACHMENTS in the Main Forum. Participation Posts are not accepted after the module/week has ended. THIS IS IMPORTANT: The Dictionary and the APA manual are NOT academic resources. I do not want learners using the dictionary to define words in their posts. You have the authority to discuss the meaning of a word without referencing a dictionary definition. You must use peer reviewed journals and/or your text book. The Bible can be used as a source, but it cannot be you ONLY source. Please make sure to include a peer reviewed article or your Butin textbook.
