Assignment title: Information
Assignment Instructions: This assignment contains two sections. Section 1: In this section of the assessment you will develop your overall understanding of the tourism job marketplace. This section of the assignment should contain: 1.1 A one page analysis, including comprehensive in-text referencing of the current trends in the tourism (or your career) job marketplace – i.e. what is the job marketplace like? Where are the opportunities? This investigation should be based on the country or region where you plan to work which could be Perth, Kenya, China etc. depending on your homeland or travel aspirations. Your job marketplace analysis should include information on: · Employment rates in the country or region where you plan to work · Types of employment opportunities in your desired job location - What types of jobs exist there ? Are there jobs for tour guides or travel agents, hotel managers or local government tourism planners etc.? · Market place trends that could be linked to specific job types. (e.g. a growth trend in ecotourism in Queensland in the 1990s has now resulted in many nature-based tour guiding jobs.) · What tourism trends are currently taking place in your selected employment country or region and how might this relate to your future job? Note:It is important to realise that different regions of the world have various levels of information on tourism employment so some students will be able to provide statistics whereas other students will have to rely on information based on tourist visitation or employment advertisements to demonstrate the current state of employment in the selected employment site's tourism marketplace. Section 1( related to the country or region where you plan to work) 1.2 An investigation to determine where tourism and hospitality jobs (or jobs relevant to your career) are advertised. It must include a brief discussion (2-3 paragraphs) on the strategies you used to find relevant advertised jobs followed by a list of job seeker resources that you compiled as a result of your research. e.g nominated , newspaper job advertisements, online job seeker sites ,contact with employment agencies, direct contact with businesses in hospitality or tourism etc. 1.3 A collection of five (5) job advertisements for positions in the tourism and hospitality (or relevant) industry that attracted your attention. You are required to include copies of these five (5) advertisements in an appendix and provide( must refer to each advertisement) a brief discussion (1 paragraph per advertisement ) in the report of why these job advertisements were of interest to you and what aspects of the jobs are potentially relevant to your future career. And Section 2: In this section of the assessment you will need to select an ideal job and demonstrate your strategies to prepare yourself for this work. Now that you have analysed the tourism job marketplace, tourism job trends and have identified some potentially interesting jobs in your collection of job advertisements: 2.1 Create your ideal job description (not a job advertisement) and write it as though you were the employer (2 paragraphs maximum). This could be based on relevant parts of the different job advertisements you collected or might be based on your experiences in the workplace and knowledge of jobs that are not formally advertised (internal recruitments or those promoted by word of mouth). You might even invent a job for yourself that doesn't yet exist (space tourism flight attendant) or is very specific to your skills or employment site (accountant for an elephant tour company). 2.2 Having established your ideal job description, answer the following questions in 5 pages in total. 1. Why is this job your ideal job? 2. What activities would you undertake in this job? 3. What education or training do you require to undertake this job? 4. What type of person do you think they currently employ and why? 5. Why are you the right personality for this job? 6. Why do you have the right skills for this job? 7. What work experience would help you to prepare yourself for this job? 8. Who would you need to make contact with, or what organizations would you need to join, in order to make contacts that could give you more knowledge about this type of work or even a job? 9. What units of study should you undertake in order to prepare for this job? 10. How should you tailor your studies towards your desired career area?
