Assignment title: Information

Upon a thorough review of Mayer's decision and underlying reasons for this major cultural shift at Yahoo, as well as a review of the existing scholarly research on situational leadership as it has been applied to telecommuting, develop a written model of situational leadership she could have used instead of banning the practice to predict the result. Compare this outcome with Mayer's desired results and current perception of the outcome of her decision back in 2013. Based on your analysis and findings, do you believe a situational leadership approach could have addressed her concerns with telecommuting at Yahoo? Why or why not? Support your paper with minimum of three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included. Learning Outcomes 1.0 Analyze theories of leadership for their efficacy and appropriateness in a given situation or organization. 2.0 Develop methodologies for evaluating leadership theories and their applicability to current organizational challenges and opportunities. 3.0 Evaluate theories of leadership that are currently being practiced in an organization. 4.0 Personalize approaches to leadership that can be used to sustain organizational health and foster growth Situation Leadership and Contingency Theories Trait and behavioral leadership theories (Weeks 1 and 2) were theorists' attempts to find the best model of leadership for all situations. In the mid-twentieth century, leadership theorists began to feel that these models were insufficient. Situation leadership, the notion that leaders adapt their behaviors to address situations, deals with contingency theories. These theories consider the situational characteristics and the followers, and then adapt the leadership style to them. You will now investigate Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer's 2013 decision to ban the company's existing work-from-home policy. Mayer is not the only CEO to ban this practice, and many leaders cite reduced productivity and a lack of relationship building opportunities (i.e., increased isolation), among other reasons for their decision. Working from home, or telecommuting, is a workplace practice examined for years through a situational leadership lens in an attempt to determine the extent to which this model can negate the pitfalls of telecommuting.
