This assessment requires you to develop your knowledge about the theories on leadership capabilities and styles. It asks you to use this knowledge to develop your ideas on the kind of leadership style you would like to develop. You will then be asked to reflect on your current leadership capabilities and suggest at least one strategy to help you develop a capability over the semester. To ensure you succeed in this assessment, it is divided into two sections. Format  Title page with course number, assessment number and title, student ID and due date  Use 12 point font, with either Calibri, Arial or Times New Roman for most of the text. You can use larger font sizes for headings and subheadings.  Follow the layout of the assessment for your headings  Use 1.5 line spacing  Include a reference list (using APA 6 version) of all the books, journals and websites you use. Task one – Key Concepts Paragraphs (Learning outcome 1) Scenario: You have been appointed as a team leader in an organisation where the former manager failed to inspire and gain the trust of the staff. The organisation is an IT development company. The former manager failed to keep a number of promises and assignments; this has left the staff a little weary of any managers and leadership. The staff are all very capable experts in their different fields of expertise but are in need of solid leadership to ensure the organisation continues to deliver quality services and achieves its targets. As the newly appointed manager you are eager to take this opportunity to prove your leadership capabilities but first need to identify an appropriate leadership style and approach. Discuss the following questions using paragraphs. What leadership qualities and personal characteristics would best suit this position? [5 marks] 2. Which capabilities (character, traits, skills, etc.) are most relevant for effective leadership in terms of building relationships and establishing trust? Justify your selection [15 marks] 3. Choose the most appropriate leadership style from one of the following that would best suit this situation.  Transformational and/or Charismatic  Authentic  Ethical  Spiritual  Servant What are the strengths and weakness of the leadership style you have chosen? Justify your selection [15 marks] 4. Discuss the shift of paradigm from Control to Empowerment and how this might apply in this case? [15 marks] Task two – Reflection – Personal Leadership Style (Learning outcomes 1 & 2) Think about the kind of leadership style you would like to have. It can be, but does not need to be one of the styles listed above. 1. Reflect on your own leadership capabilities in terms of the leadership style you would like to have. Write an evaluation of your five key strengths and weaknesses in respect to this leadership style.  Include at least one weakness  Make sure you explain why you think it is strength or a weakness  Write in full sentences (between 400 to 500 words) [20 marks] 2. Decide on at least one capability you would like to develop to become a better leader. Outline how you will develop this capability/these capabilities during this leadership course.  Write in full sentences (between 50 and 80 words) In the second assignment you will be asked to reflect on how successful you think you were in developing this capability/these capabilities.
