Casterton is a town in Western Victoria, Australia, located on the Glenelg Highway, 42 kilometres east of the South Australian border, in the Shire of Glenelg. The Glenelg River passes through the town. Casterton is named after the village of Casterton in south-east Cumbria in England. Population 1,425 (2011) Established 1846 Elevation 73 m (240 ft) Location 359 km (223 mi) from Melbourne 103 km (64 mi) from Portland 69 km (43 mi) from Mount Gambier Industries Farming, Forestry, Health, Education and Tourism. Every month there is a cattle auction in Casterton, the town has a Community Centre, a weekly local newspaper and hosts many social activities throughout the year (horse racing, Australian Rules football games, golfing competitions). The town has a public outdoor swimming pool, a hospital, a secondary college and several primary schools. The town hosts the annual Casterton Kelpie Festival, Casterton is the home of the Kelpie breed of dog. Casterton is also close to many sites of natural beauty. In this assignment, you have been hired as a consultant by CASTETB (Casterton Economic development and Tourism Board) who wish you to advise them on matters relating to social media and mobile technology. CASTETB represents the business and tourism community of Casterton, they wish to promote business and tourism opportunities within Casterton and also act as advocates for Casterton. CASTETB was created in 2005 by Martin Bolton on before of the town. Martin works as the CEO and CIO and with only 1 full-time employee (Martin) and 2 part-time employees and they do not have a dedicated IT department or staff. Most IT related issues are outsourced to a Hamilton organisation - Dumnonia IT Solutions. CASTETB has members from across the Casterton region, CASTETB is funded by annual subscriptions from members, fundraising and revenue generated from CASTETB. CASTETB has a board of six members (all voluntary members represent business and tourism organisations in Casterton) and Martian heads the board. CASTETB operates from a dedicated office in Henry Street, Casterton. Martin has found it difficult to find the time to keep up to date with the changing nature of IT and he does not fully understand social media / mobile technology and its implications. CASTETB has therefore hired you as a consultant to provide advice and guidance on social media / mobile technology matters. You have been hired to write a strategy report for CASTETB (specifically Martin) which covers the • A brief overview of how social media and mobile technology's is currently being by organisations; • Develop an strategy on how and why CASTETB should use social media / mobile technology • Describe the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that will indicate how successful the new strategy has been; • Describe how to convert social media success into real life success, e.g. greater awareness of Casterton, increased investments, increased tourist numbers, etc.
