Students will be required to submit an essay that provides indepth analysis of the the following statement: Foreign firms having FDI in China are facing tougher business environment. The business environment is being undermined by rising labour costs and shortages of skilled labour and by greater competition (especially from Chinese companies). In addition, there are fears among foreign firms that an investment protectionist trend may be emerging in China, as evidenced by, for example, perceived discrimination against foreign-owned companies in government procurement. Despite the challenges above and global crisis that started in 2008, China remains the largest recipient of FDI among developing countries. FDI continues to play a large role in promoting China's trade and tax revenue generation. Critically discuss the general factors influencing increase in FDI in China between 2008 and 2014. You are expected to use a firm as a case to illustrate its specific factors. You are expected to use some international business concepts and theories to explain the factors behind the surge of FDI in China despite various challenges.
