Assignment title: Information
With reference to the Paynesville case study, you are to complete the following within MS Project 2010: 1. Develop a list of tasks to be performed to complete the case study project (from initialization to lock-up stage). Arrange tasks into logical groups (i.e. form parent- and sub-tasks). (Minimum of 6 sub-tasks and 2 parent-tasks per group member.) (3 out of 25 points) 2. Develop relationships between the identified tasks. In a separate document (your Analysis Document), provide a short justification for why tasks are to be related and what type of relationship you chose and why. Use the format suggested in Appendix A1. (3 out of 25 points) 3. Assign resources to the tasks. As a minimum, you're expected to make assumptions about the number of labourers involved in the different tasks. For each task, state in your Analysis document whether the task should be an effort driven task or a duration driven task and justify your choice. (4 out of 25 points) 4. Estimate the durations for the tasks identified in assignment task 1. Make assumptions and state those in the notes field of the tasks in MS Project. You can use fixed durations, but should define most optimistic, most pessimistic, and most likely durations (PERT durations) for at least 4 tasks. For these tasks, document the PERT durations in your Analysis document and discuss which changes of production factors lead to your different estimates of optimistic, pessimistic and likely durations. Provide a copy of this discussion in both the Notes field of the task in MS Project as well as in your Analysis Document. (5 out of 25 points) 5. Provide a copy of your Gantt chart and your resource graph in your Analysis document and identify the highest resource peak. (1 out of 25 points) 6. First, save your current schedule as a baseline. Then, for the week in which you experience the highest resource peak, limit the available resources to 50% of the peak value and let MS Project rearrange the schedule. Put a copy of the new resource graph and a Tracking Gantt chart (using the baseline you just created for comparison) into your Analysis document and provide a brief explanation of how MS Project re-arranged the tasks (i.e. try to explain the rationale behind it).
