You are required to select and examine an existing company that is currently using business intelligence and decision support systems as part of its business strategy. In order for you to meet the requirements of this Part B, you need to answer the following questions: 1. Discuss in detail what tools and techniques are used by the company to support its business operations. Provide examples on how those tools and techniques are used in the company. 2. What improvements/enhancements can be observed from this company as compared to other companies within the same industry? 3. How do you think business intelligence provides values to your chosen company and its customers? 4. What are the main factors that influence the success of business intelligence in the company? You are required to write a report on the reasons for the development of the business intelligence project and outcomes based on the implementation of the business intelligence project (maximum 1,000 words). Part B Question 1 (10 marks) The general manager of Icycle manufacturing company would like to find out how many bicycles and scooters that the production department can build next month. The decision making is based on the following information below. The production of each bicycle consumes 20 days of labour and $1000 of materials. The production of each scooter consumes 50 days of labour and $1500 of materials. Each bicycle brings $800 profit to the company, while each scooter brings $1200 profit to the company. The company has a capacity of 3000 working days per month, and the budget for the materials is $250000 per month. The sales department requires that at least 50 units of bicycles and 20 units of scooters be produced per month. Note: You should use MS Excel or other software to solve this LP problem. Submit your solution with the mathematical model. Hint: In MS Excel, you need to use the Solver Add-ins to solve the LP problem. You should find the relevant information from the online Help. Question 2 Explain the main difference between big data and big data analytics. Give a real life example on how big data can be useful for supporting business operations. (Use less than 500 words). Question 3 What is the importance of a collaborative technology? Provide the name of a software that is used for collaboration and discuss how this technology is used. (Use less than 1000 words) Question 4 Read the resource material available on the course website about WEKA (in Week 5 and Week 6). Download WEKA software and install it onto your computer (ensure the bundled Java Runtime Environment, i.e. jre is installed). After successful installation of the program, classify iris from the data 2 iris.arff using J48 classifier (keep other parameters as default). The iris.arff file can be found on this link http://www.hakank.org/weka/iris.arff. Write an analysis report based on the classification results. You need to include the results in your report. Hints: 1. To classify data in WEKA, use "Open file", than select "Classify" ►"Classifier (Choose)"►"trees" ►"J48". 2. You need to develop a decision tree and explain the output as well as the important variables required for generating the output. Question 5 - Oral Presentation (20 marks) Choose one topic from all the topics covered in the course, and present the topic in your tutorials/labs class. Students are required to develop a PowerPoint Slides for your presentation. The maximum number of slides is limited to 10. The oral presentation will take 15 minutes approximately.
