​​​ Case Study 1,500 word case study examining the securitisation of a contemporary policy issue. Due Monday April 2th at 09:00am. Select one topic and examine a relevant case (this can be from Australia or another country or be an international issue). Apply securitisation theory to the case and draw conclusions about the process of securitisation and the accuracy of the theory in your case. Topics Asylum seekers. Ebola. Climate change. Returning IS fighters. HIV/AIDS. Case study contents The purpose of the case study is to examine an example of securitisation or attempted securitisation of a security policy issue. You need to examine the case, analyse the policy and/or arguments involved and apply the theory of securitisation to the case. Your case study should offer some conclusions about the extent to which securitisation theory explains the outcomes of the case. Structure 1. Introduction o Introduce your topic. o Explain the relevance of the case to your study of securitisation theory. o Explain how you will analyse your topic. 2. Literature review o Provide the details of the case. o Discuss relevant key arguments for the case. o Discuss policies and policy outcomes related to the case. o Provide any other important information. 3. Analysis o Briefly explain the theory of securitisation as you intend to apply it. o Test the details of the case against the expectations of securitisation theory. o Make some judgments about the applicability and/or inappropriateness of securitisation theory in explaining the outcomes of the case. 4. Conclusions o Draw some conclusions about the utility of securitisation theory to your case. o Make sure that you don't summarise or describe the body of your case study – offer some original analysis and focus on the bigger picture. 5. Bibliography o Ensure that your bibliography lists all of the references you cited and nothing that you didn't cite.
