Task
Task
The Assignment requires you to produce a series of Tables from researched data and some comments based on comparisons of the data in the Tables. You are also expected to write short observations/opinions on these Tables.
This task is to be undertaken by referring to China, The United States of America, The European Union, Japan, India and Australia. The five regions chosen (in addition to Australia) represent major economies in the world at this time.
The numerical data you use can be accessed in the "Countries" section of the Australian Government, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) website.
You will be provided with the link to find the information and the layout required for the Table through the Resources in Interact.
There are 4 sections to this task: Geography, Culture, Politics and Economics
Part 1: Geographic
Part 2: Culture including Religion
Part 3: Politics and Legal systems:
Part 4: Economics and Business Development
Each part will be marked as shown for an assessment total value of 40 marks and the whole assignment is worth 20% of the overall subject assessment of 100%
Part 1 Geography: (5 marks)
Set up a table showing
The land area, the population, and the area of land per head of population (total land area divided by population) using Fact Sheet data of each Region .
Write a brief comment (approx 100 words) about the information you have learned that you did not know about before. This may be about the relative size of a country, its population size or both of these.( The word limit may be up to 250 words depending on what surprised you)
Note that the area of land per capita is a guide to how much land is available for agricultural production and this in turn is linked to how much food a country can export or needs to import. Note also that the lower the area of land per capita then the higher the likelihood that the residents will follow a culture of close community and sharing, high density urban living and so on. Look at the geographical location of these regions. That dictates the land type and the climate.
Part 2,Culture(s) and Religion(s): (10 marks)
Using Briefing Notes from the DFAT website and data from or other sources (your text and Briefing Notes on the DFAT site), write a brief statement of broad different cultural practices, customs, artistic practices, cuisines, education and languages of each of these countries.
Your statement should be able to provide someone who knows nothing about the countries with a comprehensive overview of what to expect if they arrive in that country to do business. It should be approximately 100 words for each country (600 words in total)
Part 3, Political and Legal Systems: (10 marks)
Using DFAT data and data from other sources(as above briefly describe above), describe the type of Political and Legal Systems that exist in the five regions currently.
You should provide information on the right to vote, the frequency of elections, the political structure (Democracy, Republic. Communist etc), and the relationship between the Legislature and the Judiciary. This should be approximately 100 words per country(600 words in total).
Part 4 Growth and Trade (15marks)
Using the Fact Sheets of the five countries provide the following 2 Tables for the period 20103 to 2015
Part 4 Table 1
1. Average Real GDP Growth
2. Average GDP per capita
3. Average Current Account Balance
Part 4 Table 2
1. Australian merchandise trade with the other countries, showing exports, imports and total trade
2. Australian Total Investment in these countries and the Total Investment in Australia by the four other regions
3. Australia's major exports to each of the countries and Australia's major imports from the countries. Please provide both the item description (eg Coal, Gold etc.) as well as the value in Australian dollars.
Finally, write briefly about two things you have learned and you think are important about these tables with regard to International Management (approx. 100 words for each table.(200 words in total)).
Please note this is approximately 1700 words of short commentaries on your findings and presentation of the data.
It is NOT a 2000 word essay.
