the eye and communicates the purpose to the reader.
" Develop a clear table of contents.
" Complete an executive summary which clearly and concisely summarizes
the main points of the proposal and refers to the elements of the proposal for
quick referencing.
" Introduce the subject and position by thoroughly explaining the present
situation. The student is to define the proposal parameters and reader
expectations with a guiding outline.
" Present the problem and expand with reasons – why things need to
change through the use of clear arguments in the main body of the proposal.
These arguments must be substantiated, at all times, by proper referencing
found in the bibliography and if applicable, included in the appendix.
" Present the possibilities – this section covers the pros and cons of each
possibility. The reader should have the opportunity to decide whether to adopt
x, y or z; accept the proposal or leave the situation as it currently stands.
" Conclude with a strong proposal / recommendation – a well thought
out and extensive explanation of the choice being proposed, insightful answers
to any anticipated objections and applicable facts and figures to support the case
are crucial.
" Make the proposal look readable – display a written style that is
appropriate to a formal proposal in terms of the layout, appendixes and
appropriate use of supporting data, figures, charts and graphs. Inclusion of
proper in-text citations and references, per the UBI Referencing Guide
" Complete edits and proofread as the proposal is to be free of spelling and
grammatical errors and contain accurate, brief and clear sentence structure.
" Be reader friendly – the overall presentation of the proposal is to be clean,
clear and streamlined in order to create an easy read. The reader should be able
to quickly reference forward and backward throughout the proposal. Visual aids
should be used only to articulate or support a point, where appropriate.
