Assignment title: Information

Technical Report writing Welding Workplace Information Your role is the OHS manager for the company. You are new to the company and have carried out a risk assessment for the welding operators at the manufacturing site. Using the workplace in the video, do: • Risk assessment • Walk-through survey • Research health effects for welders • Plan a sampling strategy: o 3 worker groups – A, B, C A- Welding in large frame and larger space B- Welding in small frame and small space C- grinding o 2 workers in each group o Determine methods, equipment etc. o Determine resources required for sampling • Determine assessment criteria you would use for results & interpretation Welding Workplace Results Here are the results of the air sampling carried out for the workers at the site. Worker Group Worker ID Inhalable dust (mg/m3) Iron (mg/m3) Manganese (mg/m3) Copper (mg/m3) A J. Gold 3.2 1.5 <0.1 <0.1 A F. Black 2.1 1.1 <0.1 <0.1 B H. White 3.5 2.1 0.1 <0.1 B C. Brown 5.2 3.9 0.3 0.2 C P. Silver 4.1 - - - C S. Green 3.9 - - - Ozone measurements were conducted for workers in groups A & B, i.e. welders. The results are below. Worker Group Worker ID Ozone (ppm) A J. Gold ND A F. Black ND B H. White 0.06 B C. Brown 0.10 Notes: • Gas meter used gave out instantaneous results, i.e. direct reading instrument • ND – not detected, i.e. less than detection limit of the gas meter used which was 0.01 ppm) Use the above information to help you decide what to do and if any controls are required – i.e. interpret the results. If you determine controls are required, briefly state what types of controls would be best in this scenario. Using the information gathered from the welding workplace, this assignment is to write up an individual technical report (using AIOH guidelines), and include the results of the risk assessment, health effects, measurement methods, results, discussion, recommendations etc Your viewpoint is as the person who has conducted the survey, i.e. the WHS manager. New Information: The results already provided were from your first day of sampling at the company. After you did the sampling, the company implemented some 'controls' they thought were worthwhile and they had the budget to do. They spent a lot of money ($$$$$) by putting in roof fans to 'extract' air from the workplace and they want to know if it was effective. You did some repeat sampling to determine if the roof fans were effective as requested by management. Here are the results. Worker Group Worker ID Inhalable dust (mg/m3) Iron (mg/m3) Manganese (mg/m3) Copper (mg/m3) A J. Gold 2.8 1.1 <0.1 <0.1 A F. Black 2.3 1.2 <0.1 <0.1 B H. White 3.1 2.1 0.1 <0.1 B C. Brown 5.3 2.2 0.4 0.2 C P. Silver 3.8 - - - C S. Green 4.0 - - - • Ozone measurements were not conducted Use these results in your report to discuss the results and what they mean. Use the established acceptance criteria and discuss what controls are best in this situation to prevent exposure to the welders. Remember to include the previous results as well so you can compare the previous data to the new data above. Please reference any information and resources used correctly (use the Harvard Guidelines)
