Assessment 2 – Report (40%)
Case Study Report
The assessment requires you to seek out and find a planning document from the past, such as a subdivision design, metropolitan planning policy, a transport plan, a retail plan / policy or an urban design plan / guidelines from an area you can easily access.
Your tasks for this assessment include:
1. Obtain an planning document relating to a development which has taken place (not a proposal for a new one);
2. Visit the site / area to which the plan / policy relates and consider the plan's impact on development outcomes – assess the environmental / social and economic strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT analysis);
3. Assess the success or otherwise of the plan / policy.
Each presentation will be expected to:
• Outline the background that lead to the plan being produced;
• Briefly summarise the content of the plan;
• Outline the agencies and processes involved in approving the plan and any related documents;
• Consider the strengths and weaknesses of the plan;
• Outline how the plan might have been improved upon.
Deliverables
The case study will be required to be presented as a report and uploaded to the nominated Turnitin link located under the assessments tab in Blackboard. The report should be no more than 3'000 words and should be fully analysed (not just describing), referenced using Chicago 16 referencing style, all graphics labelled correctly and in accordance with Curtin University Academic Integrity policy.
