Each student must complete a location recording of an ensemble as part of a recording team and submit an individual mixdown of the recording. The ensemble should comprise predominantly acoustic instruments or voice, recorded in a suitable venue. This recording must be done as a live performance and no overdubs may be recorded. Emphasis must be placed on appropriate microphone techniques and the acoustics of the venue itself. Subsequent editing together of alternate takes is permissible. Suitable ensembles include string quartets, jazz bands, ethnic or folk groups, orchestras, choirs, brass bands, etc... Preference should be given to challenging or unusual instruments.
