Assignment title: Information

Definition(s) - What do the theoreticians working within the given theoretical framework mean when they discuss/use the concept of ... - Are there different definitions that you can identify in the literature? (use referencing). Are these differences corresponding to various branches of the theories (classical vs neo etc) - What are some of the assumptions that this definition contain? 2. Establishing the importance of the concept (of that definition): - Starting from the definition, locate the importance of the concept within the particular theory  Why does it matter to have the concept defined that way? Would it matter if it would be defined in a different way? • What is the impact – or how is this concept linked with other concepts? Does the acceptance of this concept lead to a particular expected behaviour? - You can concentrate on links between your concept and at least one other concept - Usefulness of the concept for the theory (is it essential to look at this concept in order to understand how the theory works? Why? What does it allow? What are the mechanisms put in place by this concept) 3. Illustrations (of the definition, of the importance, linkages etc) - Can you illustrate the way the scholars within this theoretical framework use the concept? - Can you find an example from the a case study that confirms the expectation of the theory in terms of consequences (suggestion use the case study recommended or another one) - (less important) - Can you find any materials in media (video, cartoon, animation, movie) that relates to this concept in the way the theory uses it? 4. Critical analysis - Is that what is happening in the world? Are the any exceptions? - Can you identify any limitations of the concept? – a good idea is to start from assumptions. 5. Questions raised by the concept (either definition, or linkages) - Things that you identified as problematic from the materials read - Things that you did not understand, or that you would want the seminar to discuss in more details 6. Bibliography used - - Emphasis falls on scholarly materials you have identified from your researched and used in your report - You can include other materials (movies, documentaries, websites) but only as a supplement to the scholarly materials - When possible, identify a particular scholarly ranking, index etc. Of course, some concepts will be more prone to measurement than others, and it is not always possible to find such indexes.
