Also document the procedures and policies that apply to the use and maintenance of the network. 1. Policy Document Create a BRIEF Acceptable Use Policy statement, it must be less than 256 characters in length, it will specify what the company deems acceptable actions and what is not when accessing and using the network, this statement is to be used in the logon message 2. Naming Rules/Conventions Create and document a set of naming rules for your network. These rules are to be used to name all of the nodes, devices, network shares and Group Policy Objects in the network Create naming rules that will cater for the naming of the following: • Servers, Workstations and all other network devices (EG: printers, switches and routers) • The naming rules will also cater for the following elements in the name of each node or device:  The node or devices location  What the device is (EG: A domain controller or a switch)  The primary function of the node or device  Be able to cater for more than one node or device at a location with the same function (EG: two switches at the same location)  Include a lists of abbreviations that must be used for all elements of node names  Include examples of the use of these rules • Naming rules for network shares (Include examples) • Naming rules for GPOs (Group Policy Objects) (Include examples) • User accounts naming rules (Include examples) • A document naming rules (Include examples) 3. IP Addressing Scheme Create and document an IP addressing scheme that will cater for the proposed network with the following features: • Where DHCP is to be used, identify the range of IP addresses that will be included in the DHCP scope and what IP addresses will be excluded from the scope. • Also identify what optional TCP/IP information will be included in the scope options • Also identify which nodes will require static IP addresses and what IP address ranges will be allocated to these nodes. • The IP addressing scheme must be able to cater for expansion of the network 4. Network Drawing Use a suitable drawing program to produce a network drawing of the proposed network This drawing must have the following features: • All nodes including servers must be included and labelled • Groups of nodes with identical requirements can be represented as a single object in the drawing but must be labelled as such so as to identified it as a group of nodes • Each node must have its IP address in its label or DHCP scope range, for groups of nodes use the IP range • All objects in the drawings must use the naming rules outline in the Network Naming Rules documentation 5. Organisational Structure Create a drawing showing the logical organisational structure of the proposed Domain This drawing must include the following: • The Domain name, all required OUs and groups, each must be labelled • It must show the hierarchy of OUs and groups 6. Network Folders Structure, Shares and Drive Mappings Review the Appendixes and create a diagram of the required folder structure for the file server, ensure it also includes the following: • The diagram shows all of the required folder structure • The diagram must include drive mapping letters where folders are mapped as network drives (subfolders are only to be mapped to a drive letter when another group requires access to it) • The structure provides appropriate storage of data for each section of the company 7. Network Shares, Folders and Drive Access Permissions Matrix Create a matrix of the access permissions of each Group to all network drives • Identify required permissions for subfolders in the structure as appropriate for each group • Identify the drive letters that each folder will be mapped to 8. Group Policy Settings Review the Appendixes and identify and document any server policy settings and configurations required by company policies and requirements for the proposed network. (Only included requirements for Phase One) Create a Policy and Configuration table that has all of the required Group Policy settings and includes the following details: • The name of the group policy (EG: password policy) • How will the policy configuration be set? (EG: complex passwords are to be used and set to Enabled) • Identify which server the settings are to be made on, especially if any settings are unique to one server only (EG: Auditing of folders on the file server) • The name of the GPO the setting will be in (use your naming rules where required) 9. User Account Records Create a User Account Record Sheet that has the following information: • User account name • User's full name • Department or section • Group membership NOTE – You will need to create a user account record that includes full details of each of the user accounts you will create for the initial network setup and testing 10. Documentation Register Create a document register, this register will be used to assist the network administrators to find which document contains the information they are looking for. This register must have the following details: • The name of each document • A brief description of the contents of each document • The version of each document • Status of the document – Public or Confidential SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS 1.
