Assignment 2 – Audio and Video Editing & Website Creation

Total marks: (25% of Unit Total including 5% lab participation)
Purpose of the assessment:
The purpose of this assignment is to acquire skills of editing contents of audio and video and embed such
audio and video in a simple website.
Description of the assessment
This assignment consists of two parts: audio/video editing and website
• editing a video with soundtrack, based on video files provided to you.
• Create your own audio file of your ID number (e.g. 1.mp3) using your electronic gadgets
• creation of a small website incorporating the various media elements created in the assignments
for this unit..
The following files are available in Moodle inside your respective unit folder (BN107/BN107D)
• digits‐movie.avi ( a movie file consisting of short animations of each of the digits from 0 to 9)
• spoken‐digits.wav (an audio file consisting of the names of the digits – created/recorded by you)
• asst2‐sample‐solution.avi (a sample of the sort of movie which needs to be created for part1 of this
assignment)

Part 1 – AV (Audio/Video) Editing
Using digits‐movie.avi as source material, create a movie using Windows Live Movie Maker that comes
with Windows7) containing the following elements:
• A title screen consisting of light white text on a navy background, with Moviemaker's 'Cinematic
burst right' effect listing the following information:
o unit code and name
o assignment number
o your name
o your student number
A series of animated clips extracted from digits‐movie.avi, arranged so as to display the digits of your
student number in a sequence. Each clip should be accompanied by the name of the digit being spoken
(extracted from the spokendigits.wav file), with the second and fourth digits being clearly louder than the
other digits. You should use the following transitions between each clip, with each transition being as close
to 1 second in length as possible:
1st and 2nd digit: Eye
2nd and 3rd digit: Heart 3rd and 4th digit: Pixelate
4th and 5th digit: ZigZag, Vertical
5th and 6th digit: Star, 5 points
For Credits, again use light white text on a navy background, listing the assignment's title and yourself as a
writer, director and producer of this movie. Use the 'Cinematic burst left' animation option.
Save your movie both as a MovieMaker project file, and as mp4 file.
Part 2 – Website
Create a website consisting of 5 pages, with the following titles: Home, Digital Images, Digital Animation,
Digital Audio and Video, Text. All pages should have the following features (using a consistent layout across
all pages):
• A non‐white background colour and a well‐chosen legible text colour (use the same colour scheme
for all 5 pages)
• Horizontal menu at the top of each webpage to the other pages on the site.
• None of the pages should contain links to themselves.
• Each page heading must match the page title.
The Home page (saved as index.html) should also display the following details, in a bullet‐point list:
• Your name and student number
• The unit code and name
• The assignment number
• A 'mailto' link with your email address
The Digital Images page should have following components:
• The collage produced for Midterm test in week5
• A list of bullet‐points on the topic "Advantages and Disadvantages of GIF file format" – these must
be in your own words.
The Digital Animation page should display:
• The animation produced for Assignment 1
• Explanation of the topic "Principles of animation" – must be in your own words.
The Digital Audio and Video page should display:
• The video produced for part 1 of this assignment
• Explanation of the topic "Principles of Video Compression" – must be in your own words.
The Text page should also display:
• A list of bullet‐points on the topic "Factors affecting text readability on Web pages" – these must
be in your own words.
BN107 students only: In addition to the above requirements you must also submit a Word document
which describes the following concepts of multimedia
1. Use of external CSS (make a reference to your assignment 2 – how you did it)2. Issues of copyright infringement (how did you avoid in relation to images used)
3. How HTML5 elements have been used (e.g. audio, video etc.) in your assignment
Submission and marking process
Assignments should be submitted in Moodle link provided. Create a zipped folder under your ID containing
all of the files required for your submission which includes the following:
• all 5 HTML files
• all media elements used in the website (collage, animation and movie)
• your MovieMaker project file created in Part 1
• your Word document (for BN107 students only)
Before submitting, carefully check your folder for all necessary files
Assignments will be marked on the basis of fulfilment of the requirements, and the quality of the final
product.
In addition to the marking criteria, marks may be deducted for failure to comply with the assignment
requirements, including (but not limited to):
• incomplete documentation
• incomplete submissions (e.g. missing files)
Refer to the Unit Description for details of the policy on marking of late assignments. Any applications for
extensions or special consideration should be made as early as possible, and in all cases prior to the
