This assignment will assess your ability to work effectively as a team member to construct persuasive and informational communications within a variety of professional contexts, using a variety of channels, i.e., a project charter, a work plan, a risk and resource plan, an email, a presentation, and a mobile phone app screen design or webpage, and a business report. You belong to a team that intends to improve the digital inclusion of Indigenous Australians by providing free WiFi. Teams Early in the term, you will complete a resume applying for a position as a People Manager, Planning Manager, Development Manager, or Support Manager. The course coordinator will appoint People Managers. The People Managers will then invite people to form a team four to five people. If you are not in a team by Week 6, the course coordinator will allocate you to a team. To promote effective teams, your team should create a Project Charter, Work Plan, and Risk and Resourcing Plan. Project Charter For the People Manager: You should construct a Project Charter that includes the following: Optionally include identity aspects such as a team name, motto, and logo. Summaries of the goals and expectations of the team members. Identify team roles, e.g., People Manager, Planning Manager, Development Manager, and Support Manager. List main responsibilities for each role, e.g., the Development Manager may be responsibility for ensuring the quality of the documents. Allocate people to roles Work Plan For the Planning Manager: You should construct a Work Plan that breaks down the Assessment into tasks. Estimate the number of hours each task will take. Allocate the tasks to your team members. Team members will report their weekly contributions and actual hours to you. You need to update the Work Plan and distribute it to your team. Risk and Resource Plan For the Support Manager: You should construct a Risk and Resourcing Plan. Include any identified risks, e.g., if you anticipate the loss of a team member. You should identify and obtain any required resources, e.g., a shared Dropbox or GDrive folder. Weekly Diary Blog An individual blog will be provided for you on the course web site. By Week 7, you should have posted a copy of your team's Project Charter, Work Plan and Risk and Resourcing Plan. Each week, you are to report your contributions and actual hours worked to the Planning Manager. The Planning Manager will update the Work Plan with the actual hours worked and return the Work Plan to you. You must add a weekly blog entry containing the updated Work Plan. To promote team communication, the team will be assessed on the regularity and consistency of the entries of all team members from Week 7 to 11. Email (400-600 words) Compose an email to persuade organisations to provide possibly limited yet free WiFi to the public. Mobile App Screenshot or Webpage Your group intends to create a mobile app and a webpage to inform Indigenous Australians about nearby, free WiFi services. Given resource constraints, you only need to design either a single mobile app screenshot or a single webpage. You should focus particularly on the most useful types of information given the needs of the audience, and media and the best way to present the information. Presentation Construct a PowerPoint or similar presentation to persuade Indigenous Australians to download your mobile app or visit your website which provides information about nearby, free WiFi services. The presentation should be between three to six minutes. Your presentation should include: Slides, e.g., PowerPoint. A title slide, introduction, conclusion or summary, and a reference list. In-text citations for sources and media, e.g., images and audio. Presentations may be performed in class in Week 11. Alternatively, you will need to video yourself presenting to allow for assessment of your non-verbals. All team members must present. Business Report for Analysis of Communications (1400-1600 words) Write a report using a business report framing to illustrate that you have met the assignment criteria. Analyse each of the following communications using the concepts covered in this course: Project Charter, Work Plan, Risk and Resourcing Plan, Email, Mobile App Screenshot or Webpage, Presentation, and Business Report. For example, for each communication you should address the following: Communications model, e.g., identify your audience, discuss implications (including non-verbal and intercultural) of context, channel and environment, identify opportunities for feedback, and potential sources of interference. Message, e.g., identify and/or discuss your use of language, emphasis strategies, effective writing strategies, and style.For the persuasive communications (e.g., email and presentation), provide breakdowns of your structured arguments by identifying, e.g., claims, data, warrants, and argumentation strategies. Organisation, e.g., thesis, outline, paragraph organisation, sentence organisation and transitions. Sources, e.g., authority, accuracy and relevance. Team Self-Evaluation A team self-evaluation form containing the assignment criteria will be provided on course website. Complete the team self-evaluation prior to submission. Self and Peer Assessment To improve individual accountability, you must complete a self and peer assessment. Further details will be provided. You are encouraged to use your self and peer assessment ratings as evidence of your teamwork skills in job application selection criteria. Submission Before the assignment deadline, you should complete a self and peer assessment. The self and peer assessments may be used to modify your marks by up to 20% of the highest possible grade. You should submit a Word document and your slides, e.g., a PowerPoint document via the course web site. If you did not present in class, you should upload your video of your presentation, or include a link in your slides. Return to Students Within a fortnight of the submission deadline. Assignment Criteria The assignment criteria includes aspects such as: Teamwork Products: Your Project Charter details goals, expectations, roles and responsibilities; Work Plan has adequate task breakdown, allocates tasks, includes estimated hours and is updated weekly with actual hours; Risk and Resourcing Plan provides adequate identification of required resources; Each team member's Weekly Diary Blogs is updated regularly and there is consistency of message within teams; Project Charter, Work Plan, and Risk and Resourcing Plan is posted to Weekly Diary Blog by Week 7. Email Structural Integrity and Organisation: Your email has a strong, engaging introduction, an effective thesis; the body of the document flows from thesis; your conclusion effectively wraps up the work; your transitions appropriately guide the reader through the reading.Your paragraphs have an effective structure with topic, body and conclusion sentences. Email Arguments & Rhetorical appeals: Your arguments are convincing and supported with evidence; arguments are well structured, e.g., use Toulmin model; effective use of cognate strategies, e.g., tone and emphasis. Email Framing: Meticulous email framing. Email Style/Voice: Enthusiastic expression of the ideas; Effective sentences in a style consistent with audience and context.Author demonstrates understanding of concepts such as active/passive, declarative/imperative, KISS, visual emphasis strategies, and effective word choice Mobile App or Webpage: Insightful choice of information types and presentation based on analysis of audience's needs. Presentation Structural Integrity and Organisation: Your presentation has a strong, engaging introduction, an effective thesis; the body of the presentation flows from thesis; your conclusion effectively wraps up the work; structure includes title slide, conclusion or summary slide and a reference list, Presentation Arguments & Rhetorical appeals: Your arguments are convincing and supported with evidence; arguments are well structured, e.g., use Toulmin model; effective use of cognate strategies, e.g., tone and emphasis. Presentation Framing: Meticulous presentation framing, e.g., ideas in point form; not in sentence form; slide numbers; footers; fast and efficient transitions; few words per slide; large font sizes; only relevant animation and images; consistent colour, fonts and layouts; contrast between text and background. Presentation Nonverbals: Excellent stage presence including well prepared, stands up straight, loud clear voice, good eye contact, does not speak too fast or too slow; appropriate use of cue cards: does not read; appropriate use of time. Business Report Structural Integrity and Organisation: Your report has a strong, engaging introduction, an effective thesis; the body of the document flows from thesis; your conclusion effectively wraps up the work; your transitions appropriately guide the reader through the reading.Your paragraphs have an effective structure with topic, body and conclusion sentences. Communications Analysis of Presentation: Your business report includes an insightful analysis of your presentation, e.g., audience, context, channel, environment, feedback, interference, language, emphasis strategies, effective writing strategies, style, organisation and sources.Breakdowns of your structured arguments are provided by identifying, e.g., claims, data, warrants, and argumentation strategies. Communications Analysis of Intercultural Context: The analysis of communications in your business report includes discussions of context that demonstrates insightful intercultural awareness, Business Report Framing: Meticulous business report framing. Business Report Style/Voice: Enthusiastic expression of the ideas; Effective sentences in a style consistent with audience and context.Author demonstrates understanding of concepts such as active/passive, declarative/imperative, KISS, visual emphasis strategies, and effective word choice Referencing: Meticulous use of CQU Abridged Harvard Referencing Style.
