Group Report and Oral Presentation

Late assignments will incur a penalty 10% per day.
The assignment will be in three parts:
Draft: worth 05%. A 200-300 words Draft submission from each group through Moodle .You will need to get your case study issue /organisation approved by your lecturer before you proceed with working on it.
• Each group will submit a Draft Proposal based on the chosen company and the HRM issue (look at the sample on Moodle) on Moodle on the due date in week 3.2 (Tuesday 6 September by 11:59 pm).
• Discuss your proposal for the case study with the teacher on Monday 4.1 (12 September), in person. If you have scored less or based on the teachers feedback to your draft. Unless your proposal has been approved, you will not be able to submit your assignment.
• Once the proposal is approved by your teacher, the student groups may proceed with the assignment.
Report: worth 20% (1,500 words per member). One only group report per group must be uploaded on Moodle through Turnitin in Week 5. (Only one student out of each pair needs to upload their group report).
• The report is to be submitted on Moodle by Week 5, 20/09/2016 by 11.59 p.m.
• It is to be used as the basis for your Oral Presentation.
Oral Presentation: worth 10 % (marking per member contribution). The Oral presentations will be held in class and each pair will present their contribution to the group report in the form of a combined presentation, prepared by each group, in class, during Week 6.
• Presentations will be scheduled on both 6.1 and 6.2 (26 and 27 September), strictly according to the schedule.
• The schedule for group allocations and timing will be posted on the Moodle discussion forum in Week 5.
Written Report description:
Analyse your workplace as an organisation and write a report on it, covering and incorporating the questions below:
a) Explain how HRM principles are applied at your workplace to act as a strategic management tool, to meet organisational goals and objectives.
b) Analyse the key HRM frameworks, processes and procedures and report their application on a day-to-day basis at your workplace.
c) Examine and report the process of personnel planning, recruiting, interviewing and selecting employees for your workplace.
d) Explain the process of appraising, training and developing employees and managing careers.
e) Considering your workplace, relate the responsibilities of your organisation, management and employees in regard to employment law, government acts and regulations and employer and employee associations.
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬Write a proper Report including:
• Cover Page
• Executive summary
• Table of contents
• Situation analysis and case introduction
• Problem identification, (e.g. Identifying from your workplace any HR issues relating to Harassment, Bullying , Unfair dismissal , Low pay rates or Performance Management issues or any other workplace related issue etc.)
• Analysis /evaluation-Support your arguments with relevant theories
• Recommendations – Conclusion
• List of References
You must:
• Include research using at least 5 academic journal articles (refer to ProQuest, EBSCOHOST/ebrary).
• Carefully select appropriate theories and concepts.
• Use evidence and examples to support your arguments.
• Write in a clear and logical manner.
• Cite all references using the Harvard referencing system.
• Prepare and format a reference list.
You can score well if you provide the following:
• A proficient report which includes theoretical concepts linked with the analysis of the issues from your workplace.
• A proper discussion, including aspects of human resource management principles
• Creativity and consistency – how well your arguments hold together as well as using consistent fonts and format throughout the report.
• Proper format in terms of font size, sequence and paragraphs used, as well as accurate spelling, grammar and referencing.
The Presentation should include:
A five-minute in-class presentation identifying the individual contribution to the report submitted.
The students should prepare a PowerPoint presentation (6-8 slides) of their part of the report and should focus on the HRM aspects identified, in relation to your case study report:
• Your analysis of HR issues within your workplace
• Briefing of the processes within your organisation
• Any employment law, government acts and regulations which are relevant to your workplace.
• Recommendations
Students must deliver their group presentation in class on the scheduled time and date.
Marks will be given on individual performance for each group member out of a total of 10 points.
Presentation Schedule will be posted in Week 5 on Discussion forum on Moodle.
