Assignment title: Information
Online Assessment Network Server Design Document
The italic text under each section below provides a basic guide to building this design document. Please replace the italic text with your own content.
Overview
The Design Document describes how the online assessment network server will be deployed, installed, configured, and transitioned into the school's current network infrastructure. It contains an overview of the server, the overall resources that are needed to implement an online assessment network server (such as hardware, software, facilities, materials, and personnel), and any site-specific design based on the business requirements.
1 INTRODUCTION
This section provides an overview of the design background based on the given information from the scenario. It may include any additional information that may be appropriate.
1.1 Purpose
This section describes the purpose of this design. You need to refer to the nature of the required network server to identify the design purpose (by consulting the given information from stakeholders in the scenario).
1.2 Personnel Requirements and Staffing
This section describes personnel requirements and any known or proposed staffing requirements for this project. It includes describing the required personnel, their involvement, and their roles in the project.
1.3 Proposed Network Server
This section provides a brief overview of the proposed online assessment network server to be implemented into the existing school's network infrastructure. It includes:
A description of the current business problem.
How does the server meet the business requirements?
What is the relationship between this server and other servers in the school's domain, and what's benefits are bought about by having this server?
A network diagram that is developed based on Figure 1 on page 3 of the WS2 project. It must show where the location of this network server fits in the school's network infrastructure, how the server is connected to the network infrastructure, and the server name and IP settings.
1.4 Network Server Description
This section provides an overview of the network server intended design, such has identifying the server technical specifications, configuration details of the server roles and features, server applications, redundancy, and network access connection. It also includes the server hardware, network operating system, required server application software, data migration, Windows Server 2012R2 built-in testing/auditing tools, and other equipment/facilities required for the implementation if any.
1.4.1 Hardware
This section provides a list of detailed server hardware components that includes the processor, memory, storage, video card, network card, data cable, power supply, data backup device, and any additional hardware that you consider necessary for building the online assessment network server.
Find suitable hardware components to build this server, or a well-packaged pre-built server from the current market. You must include the web site addresses or other references regarding where you found the suggested hardware components, and then acknowledge it in the Design References section.
1.4.2 Software and Network Operating System configuration
Software
This section provides a list of software required to for the network server. It includes a network operating system, the proposed online assessment design and management software, server testing and auditing tools, and other software tools/applications (if needed). In this list, you need to identify the software by name, installation requirements, and how to configure to meet the business needs such as:
You have been asked to use the Windows 2012R2 as the server network operating system for your new server by the AH Grammar School. Discuss if you agree or disagree with this solution for the proposed server. You must write at least half page for this discussion.
Study the proposed online assessment design and management software called Exam Pro (Windows), and then write at least half page introduction regarding this product.
It is a "try before you buy" product, and can be evaluated freely and purchased only if it satisfies the project needs. (Refer to http://www.exam-software.com for more information)
By applying your knowledge of Windows Server 2012R2, you must suggest at least 5 Windows Server 2012R2 built-in monitoring and auditing tools/utilities tools for testing the server after installation, and then write down the name of the suggested tools/utilities and the purposes for using this tool/utility for testing the server.
For an example, run the Ping Networking Utility to check the network connectivity between the proposed server and other nodes in the LAN.
Network Operating System Configuration
You need to determine which type of file system, and how many partitions on each hard disk that you are going to create for the proposed server. And then explain how you are going to migrate the already developed online assessment data to the proposed location. (Refer to the Project Scenario. You must consider the current location of the data, the source storage file system, how to migrate the data between the laptop and the proposed server.)
Discuss all required Windows 2012R2 server roles and features based on the requirements for building an online assessment server. You must list all the required server roles and features, and then explain (by using one or two sentences) why you need these server roles and features. As an example, the online server requires a very high standard in the file management field, thus it is important to install the File Server Resource Manager in order to provide a better file management environment to meet the business's needs.
You must apply your knowledge in Active Directory administration to design the required Users Accounts, Groups, and OUs (Organisational Units) for achieving a better management in resources management and security for years 7 - 12 for all curriculum areas in the Active Directory.
You must make sure that you add the users account and resources into the correct OU and group, and then allow users access to the correct online assessments that are issued by the teaching staff. As an example, a user account from the Year 7 Student Group can only access their year level assessments for all subjects' areas. They also must not be able to access their assessment after their submission, or the teachers' marking and resulting area.
1.5 Server Security
In this section, you must provide at least a one-page overview of how to design the server security features that will be associated with the school's network infrastructure. You must seriously consider all security related issues. Remember, the proposed server manages the online assessments data, delivers online assessments to every student in the school's LAN, provides storage for assessment resource, and also records the assessment results.
As an example, you need to consider how to design network server policies, advanced auditing policies, and apply Network Access Protection Enforcement Methods
1.6 Design References
This section provides a bibliography of key design references and deliverables that have been produced before this point in the project design.
1.7 Glossary
Provide a glossary of all terms and abbreviations used in the Design Template. If it is several pages in length, it may be placed as an appendix.
