Assignment title: Information
Instructions for Part B Final Report
Write a final report with a maximum of 3000 words. Include your graphs and tables from Part A. No more than 10 pages. Word and page count do not include the Assignment Coversheet or Reference Page. The purpose of Part B is to combine your feedback from Part A and discuss the various systematic and unsystematic risks affecting your company from 2014 - 2016. Your research scope should focus on issues impacting the industry your company operates under, and key issues face by your company over this period of time. A good place to start is to search the company's Annual Reports over these years. You will also find it useful to discuss what you plan to write with your lecturer and tutor over Weeks 7 to 10. Include the latest version of your Part A graphs and summary statistics table in your Part B report.
Your discussion must address the following:
1. Provide a brief overview of your company and the industry it operates in. You are not required to provide a background of the S&P/ASX200 market index.
2. Compare the return and risks of your allocated company and a diversified portfolio (measured based on the overall stock market index), over this sample period. Relate your discussion to the descriptive statistics and graphs prepared in Part A (make sure you have incorporated your tutor's feedback).
3. Explain systematic and unsystematic risks.
- Slowing economic growth in China causing investor uncertainty in the Chinese stock markets and more recently
BREXIT, are examples of systematic risks. These have affected the stock markets of other countries and particularly, Australia's. If you were to invest in your allocated company from 2014 to 2016, would these events be
classified as systematic business risk or systematic financial risk for your investment? Explain your reasoning for
each classification.
- Provide two examples of unsystematic risks which have impacted your company between 2014 and 2016. Were
these unsystematic business or financial risks? How so? Your examples must be based on actual events which affected the company within this period. Support your discussion by citing appropriate research.
4. Suppose you have $50,000 and plan to invest in shares. Based on your discussions in (2) and (3), would you invest in a diversified portfolio (measured by the S&P/ASX200 index) or a single share investment in your allocated company? You will have to consider the historical performance up to this point, plus some research into what might happen to your company and the overall stock market in the near future.
