Assessment Details
Throughout the semester, this course examines a number of challenges faced by IT Managers in
contemporary work environments. Your task is to choose four of these topics from across the course,
research each topic to prepare a presentation, and video record yourself delivering a presentation for
each topic that provides a detailed description of the topic and its challenges as well as demonstrating
how it relates to a recent article in the news media.CRICOS Provider No. 00103D ITECH3207-6207 Project Report 1617.docx Page 2 of 5
Selection of Topics:
The course description contains an Approximate Sequence of topics, which divides the course into four
separate groups. This has been reproduced below for your reference. You are to select one topic from
each of these divisions, to a total of four topics.
Preparing Presentations:
Each of the four topics requires its own presentation. You need to conduct research into your topic
that delves further into the topic than the lecture materials so that you are able to provide a more
detailed discussion into the particular topic and the challenges it raises. You may use any reputable
source for your research, but at least two of your sources for each presentation must be journals or
books available through the Federation University Australia library.
In addition to this research, you must also find a current article in the media to which your topic relates,
and discuss your findings in relation to this article. To be current, an article must have been published
by a reputable news organisation on or after 1 January 2016. You should examine the circumstances
described in the article, relate your research to the article, and if appropriate, discuss suitable actions
an IT manager should take to resolve the challenges presented.
You need to write and submit a fully referenced script for each presentation which should take
approximately 4 minutes to deliver, with a leeway of 15 seconds in either direction. Presentations that
do not adhere to this timeframe will be penalised. The presentation should be pitched at an educated
audience such as your class mates, so you may assume that the content covered in the lectures is
understood. A suggested allocation of time is to spend 1 minute providing an overview of the topic
(which may repeat content covered in lectures), 1-2 minutes showcasing your research that provides
a greater level of understanding into your topic, and the remaining 1-2 minutes relating your topic to
the relevant news article and discussing appropriate actions for an IT manager to resolve the
challenges.
Presentation Delivery:
You are required to produce four short videos in which you deliver your scripted presentation on each
of the topics. Your script must not appear in the video; rather you are required to present its content
yourself. The intent is for you to demonstrate your understanding of each topic, so it is recommended
that you do not just read from the script, but rather present as though you were speaking to a room
full of people. You may use presentation aids such as slides, animations or other props, provided
that you personally appear and are actively delivering your presentation for at least 70% of its
duration.CRICOS Provider No. 00103D ITECH3207-6207 Project Report 1617.docx Page 3 of 5
It is the quality of the content and the delivery of the presentation that is important for this task, so you
do not need to produce highly professional videos. Any available equipment capable of recording a
reasonable video may be used, such as a web cam, mobile phone or tablet or a video camera,
provided that you are clearly identified and your voice easily heard and understood. If you do not
have access to any such equipment, you must organise to record your presentation with your tutor
by no later than the end of week 9. A free autocue program is available in the course Moodle shell,
along with a demonstration on how to use the software. You are also welcome to use any other
available software.
Remember that the each of the completed presentations must be 4 minutes in duration, with a 15
second leeway in either direction. Any time that is not spent actively presenting content does not
contribute to this duration, but it is expected that you will edit your video to remove any unnecessary
parts of the recording. Do not cite your reference list in the video presentation; this is to be included
as part of the written script only.
Submission
There are two components required for the submission of this assignment: the completed video
presentations and the corresponding scripts.
Completed videos must be uploaded to YouTube, taking care to ensure the privacy settings are set
to either Public or Unlisted to allow access for the videos to be marked. Any video that is inaccessible
will be allocated zero marks. Please note that the videos may be quite large and the upload may be
slow, so ensure you allow sufficient time to complete the upload by the due date and time. Videos
must not be uploaded to Moodle. If you are unable to upload files to YouTube, you must burn the
videos to CD and submit to your tutor by the due date.
Presentation scripts and links to the completed video presentations are to be uploaded to Moodle.
You may submit all scripts and links within one document or have separate documents for each that
are zipped for submission, as only one file may be submitted in the Moodle dropbox.CRICOS Provider No. 00103D ITECH3207-6207 Project Report 1617.docx Page 4 of 5
