ASSIGNMENT
Introduction and background notes (vocational context)
As health and social care workers partnership working is an essential component of health and
social care practice as people's needs do not always fit neatly within one agency's responsibility.
Partnerships, however, are a potentially powerful way of addressing issues that single agencies
cannot resolve by themselves. Individual health and social care professionals, agencies or
organisations with shared interests can form a partnership. It can also occur between those who
plan/provide services and those who use them. In forging a partnership, the main goal is to be able
to put together comprehensive and effective solutions to difficult problems.
Task 1: LO1 Understand partnership philosophies and relationships in health and social
care services
(Up to 1000 recommended words)
What you must do
Many organisations are now mindful of how service users and other stakeholders would judge the
quality of their services, as well as how they can improve performance to meet the sector standards.
As a newly appointed internal Quality Assurance Officer for a chain of nursing homes in London,
you have been asked by your organization to investigate the problems occurring among partners,
(e.g. reluctance to share information, lack of common goal and poor communication) and make
recommendations on how to address them. In the report you should demonstrate your knowledge of
the principles of partnership working and the implications for meeting the needs of service users:
1. Explain the philosophies of working in partnership in health and social care in relation to
identifying the failures that occurred in a residential setting [P1.1, M1]
2. Also, you should evaluate partnership relationships within health and social care services.
[P1.2, D2]
To achieve M1, an effective approach to study and research has been applied when explaining the
philosophies of working in partnership in health and social care in identifying the failures that occurred in a
residential setting.
To achieve D2, substantial investigations have been planned, managed and organised when evaluating
partnership relationships within health and social care services.
Task 2: LO2 Understand how to promote positive partnership working with users of services,
professionals and organisations in health and social care servicesICON College of Technology and Management

(Up to 1000 recommended words)
What you must do
As it is now your role to train all unit managers on how to identify and address the barriers to
partnership working, your director has asked you to compile a comprehensive training guidebook
that will serve as baseline document for best practice. The information should include the theories
and legal specifications that support partnership working, as this will further encourage unit leaders
to be able to adhere to the new expected standards.
In the manual, you should:
1. Analyse models of partnership working across the health and social care sector.[P2.1]
2. You must also review current legislation and organisational practices and policies for
partnership working in health and social care. [P2.2, M3]
3. Finally in your guidebook you must explain how differences in working practices and policies
affect collaborative working. [P2.3, M2]
4. Include a short reflective analysis for LO2 to show how the knowledge gained in Unit 4 -
Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care is linked to Unit 5 -
Working in partnership in HSC. So for example for AC 3.3 on differences in working
practices, reflect on ways to resolve issues encountered in professional relationships and
how they affect collaborative working.
To achieve M2, a range of methods and techniques have been applied when explaining how differences
in working practices and policies affect collaborative working.
To achieve M3, logical principles have been applied and justified when reviewing current legislation and
organisational practices and policies for partnership working in health and social care.
Task 3: LO3 Be able to evaluate the outcomes of partnership working for users of services,
professionals and organisations in health and social care services
(Up to 1000 recommended words)
What you must do
Following the training of managers at your organization on how to identify and address the barriers
to partnership working, after six months, the senior management team have asked you to evaluate
the outcomes of partnership working based on the newly produce guidebook. In your report, you
should be specific on whether staff are meeting the expectations in working in a multidisciplinary
environment. The findings will to be published as part of the organisation's annual report for 2016.
1. In the first section of the report you should evaluate possible outcomes of partnership
working for service users, professionals and organisations [P3.1, M1]
2. In the second section, you should analyse the potential barriers to partnership working in
health and social care services [P3.2, D1]
3. Finally, in the last section of the report you should devise strategies to improve outcomes for
partnership working in health and social care services [P3.3, D3]
To achieve D1, conclusions have been arrived at through synthesis of ideas and have been justified
when analysing the potential barriers to partnership working in health and social care citing relevant
examples to support your analysis.ICON College of Technology and Management
