Purpose of this assignment:
The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate the students' critical thinking and application of HRM
concepts within the workplace. Students will be assessed on all the learning outcomes; from the
evolution of HRM to the legal implications of termination.
To achieve a Merit (M1, M2 and M3), students must make an effective understanding of
relevant theories and techniques that must be applied on the subject matter and a range
of sources of information must be used.
To achieve a Distinction (D1, D2, and D3), effective judgments should be made and
receptiveness to new ideas should be evident.
Scenario
Situational scenarios for each tasks.Task 1 (LO2 & LO3: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 and 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4)
In any organisation it is essential to have enough employees and the right people at the right
position and at the right time.
1. Outline the rationale of planning for human resources and the different stages involved in the
process (10 marks)
2. The Recruitment exercise results from the HR Plan; compare the recruitment process in two
organisations and evaluate the effectiveness of their selection methods (10 marks)
3. Motivating and retaining talents is one of the challenges of HR Managers as well as Line
Managers. (20 marks)
3.1 What are your views on the link between motivational theories and rewards?
3.2 What are the determinants of Pay and how effective can a reward system be?
3.3 What are the mechanisms deployed in organisations to control employee performance?

Critically evaluate the evolving roles of personnel administrators to that of HR Managers.
Your answer should encompass:
1. The historical background
2. How HR Management contributes to the overall vision and objectives of an organisation
3. The need for line managers to incorporate HR aspects in their functions

As an HR Manager one of your core tasks is to instigate and manage staff's termination of
employment in a timely manner and within legal parameters.
In relation to the above,
1. List down 5 reasons for cessation of employment with an organisation
2. Compare and contrast the employment exit procedures used by two companies (local companies)
3. Discuss on the legal implications of termination, particularly mutually agreed cessations of employment
