Project Title: Attitudes of Students towards ageism
Name of Lecturer: Dr. Marthin Nanere
Description of the Research Project:
Australia is an aging population with a much larger percentage of the population
occupying the older demographic. The Australian bureau of statistics concludes "Over
the next several decades, population ageing is projected to have implications for
Australia, including; health, size of the working-age population, housing and demand
for skilled labour." Demographic changes bring with them changes in perception from
other members of the population. Young people in Australia are one demographic
with opinions in regards to aging. This research proposes an examination of the
perception of university students to older Australians and the willingness to work with
them. The definition of "older Australian" and "older adult/worker" as people aged
50 and older.
