I - Ethics Report (18 marks): Johnny Jones (known as JJ), is the operations manager at IRCL. International Retail Corporation Limited (IRCL) is a family owned business specialising in consume goods such as soap, batteries, cosmetics, toys, detergent and packaged food. JJ has a problem with slumping productivity and wants to ensure that employees are putting the required time at work. He is considering installing RFIDs in the organisation to monitor employee whereabouts but is concerned about the ethical implications of doing so. As an IS Trainee at IRCL, JJ seeks your advice. He asks you to provide a report on ethical implications of RIFDs in the workplace to him by tomorrow afternoon. He asks you the following question: "Is it ethical to collect workplace information about IRCL employees via RFIDs?" Preparation: In preparing your management report you need to read the following RAND Corporation 2005 article: Privacy in the Workplace: Case Studies on the Use of Radio Frequency Identification in Access Cards Available at the following URL - also accessible via UTS online: http://www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/research_briefs/2005/RAND_RB9107.pdf Students also need to find and read other articles as noted below. In your answer: 1- Identify 4 main stakeholders and briefly discuss how they are affected. (2 marks) 2- Analyse the case based on the four dimensions of the PAPA framework (Mason 1986), and discuss problems that could arise in each of the four dimensions. (8 marks) 3- Recommend a clear course of action in response to JJs' question and justify it based on an ethical theory. (6 marks) 4- Structure your report based on the following instructions: (2 marks) The report should be between 800 and 1200 words. Exceeding/Not Achieving the word limit will attract a penalty as stated above. The word count for the ethics report only should also be placed at the bottom of the report indicating: (Word Count = [Number]) The report should be divided into sections which could include an introduction, body and conclusion. The sections in the report must be identified as they relate to the issues above [eg 1); 2); or 3)] The report should be clear and professionally presented. This should be done taking the perspective stipulated in the case, namely, you are the IS Trainee addressing the operations manager. Critically analysis Students need to seek one further academic article (other than the Mason 1986 and The Rand report) to support their recommendation (in question 3). This article should be adequately referenced with in-text citations and bibliography references based on the Harvard Style. Students need to attach a copy of the article they use to the hardcopy they submit to their tutor. Criterion Mark Ethics Report 1- Correct Identification of stakeholders 2- Well articulated and accurate analysis of the case based on each of the four dimensions of the PAPA framework, along with identification of problems that may arise in each. 3- Clear course of action about what IRCL should do in relation to employee workplace RFIDs which is well justified based on an ethical theory, and is supported by an academic article retrieved by the students which is attached and referenced. 4- Report Structure Correct in-text citation and reference list
