AWORKING IN PARTNERSHIP ASSIGNMENT BREAK DOWN Simplifying and understanding the assessment requirements Please use this guideline to complete your work. • You must use this guideline together with the assignment brief for this unit and follow the instructions • You must read and understand the Adult A case study and relate to it all throughout your assignment • You must study the assignment brief to know the assessment criteria that are linked with the Merit and Distinction Descriptor and write your work accordingly to achieve a higher grade. • Remember this assignment is a REPORT and must be written in a report format in the following order:  Title page  Introduction  Executive summary  Section A  1.1Explain the philosophy of working in partnership in Health and Social Care  1.2 Evaluate partnership relationships within health and social care services  Section B  2.1 Analyse models of partnership working across the health and social care sector  2.2 Review current legislation and organisational practices and policies for partnership working in health and social care  2.3 Explain how differences in working practices and policies affect collaborative working  Section C  3.1 Evaluate possible outcomes of partnership working for users of services, professionals and organisations  3.2 Analyse the potential barriers to partnership working in health and social care services  3.3 Devise strategies to improve outcomes for partnership working in health and social care services  Reference List  Appendix (if any) • Please note: The Assignment brief, Adult A case study and report template are in a folder on stpmoodle titled 'Assignment pack' • Please read the slides and other relevant document on stpmoodle, these will help you to understand the unit requirements • You must reference all your sources of information using the Harvard Referencing guide 1.1 Explain the philosophy of working in partnership in Health and Social Care The Philosophies such as • Empowerment, • Autonomy, • Power sharing, • Making informed choices, • Respect, • Independence Choose any there (3) of the philosophies that you understand the most and explain them one after the other Show how this principles/concept works using Adult A case review or other relevant example in Health and Social Care. Give good example of each of the philosophy and relate to the case study where possible. You must explain and justify all your answers (For additional information see lecture slide week 2). 1.2 Evaluate partnership relationships within health and social care services • Explain the different levels of partnership working and the persons/agencies that worked at these levels in Adult A case study (Service user level, Professional level and Organisational level.) • Explain the white papers and legislations that support collaborative working such as Our health, Our care our say 2006, Putting people first, Darzi Report, Mental Capacity Act 2005 etc (choose at least 2 of these guidelines) • How can has these guidelines be effectively implemented or can be implemented at all the partnership levels. • How effective are partnership relationships in achieving the goals of partnership, when involving professionals, service users and agencies using examples from the Adult A case study. • Discuss on the pros and cons of partnership relationship at all levels • You must explain / justify all your answers. (For additional information see lecture slide week 3). 2.1 Analyse models of partnership working across the health and social care sector Explain 3 of the model of partnership working (Unified, Coordination, Coalition, Hybrid, Local Area Agreement and Local Strategic Partnership) How can the models you have chosen be effectively implemented or had been implemented in health and social care (eg Adult A) Explain the pros and cons of these models. Suggest the Model that you think would be suitable for effective collaboration to meet Adult A's needs. Please note: You must analyse these model one after the other and justify your answers (For additional information see lecture slide week 4). 2.2 Review current legislation and organisational practices and policies for partnership working in health and social care  Choose any 3 legislations/policies such as: • Safeguarding of Vulnerable Groups Act, • Health and Social care Act 2012,  Equality Act 2010,  Care Standard Act 2000,  Mental Health Act 1983 amended 2007,  Children Act 1989 amended 2004  Mental Capacity Act 2005  Data Protection Act 1998 etc  Explain the content of your chosen legislations and policies  Consider the importance of the laws and organisational practices / policies (at the time of, or after Adult A ) regarding how they may have been important in the case study.  Demonstrate how any of these laws, policies, and practices would have / should have supported partnership working in health and social care especially Adult A. (For additional information see lecture slide week 5). 2.3 Explain how differences in working practices and policies affect collaborative working Mention the different professionals and agencies that work in health and social care (eg Adult A case study) What differences exist among these agencies and professionals (Difference such as: different working time, different policies and procedure, different governing/professional bodies, different approaches to work, different trainings, different communication methods, different roles and responsibility, different information sharing protocol etc) Give reasons and supporting examples from the case study of how the different working practices of professionals and agencies within that case affected their ability to work together, and ultimately affected the service user outcomes. (These differences can have effect on collaborative working such as lack of effective communication, abuse, disempowerment, professional rivalry, financial difficulties, death etc) Mentions some of the policies put in place by the government to avert the effects of these differences and how professionals can effectively implement these policies for better outcomes. (For additional information see lecture slide week 6). 3.1 Evaluate possible outcomes of partnership working for users of services, professionals and organisations What are the outcomes (end results) of partnershipworking in health and social care? Why has these occurred? What had lead or can led to these outcomes at all levels. Identify issues in the Adult A case study that lead to these outcomes? Service user outcome: Positive outcome such as: Improved services, Empowerment, Autonomy etc Negative outcome such as: Neglect, Abuse, Harm, Anger, Miscommunication, Information overload, Confusion etc Professional outcome: Positive outcome such as: Coordinated service provision, Professional approach, Clear roles and responsibilities, Organised communication etc. Negative Outcome such as: Professional rivalry, Miscommunication, Time wasting etc. Organisational outcome: Positive outcome: Coherent approach, Shared principles, Comprehensive service provision, Common working practices, Integrated services etc. Negative outcome: Communication breakdown, Disjointed service provision, Increased costs etc You must evaluate the outcome at all levels (Service user, professional and organisation) one after the other, discussing on the positive and negative outcomes. What went well and what did not ( Justify your judgements) ( For additional information see lecture slide week 7). 3.2 Analyse the potential barriers to partnership working in health and social care services  Research the potential obstacles to partnership working in health and social care in relation to the case review (Barriers include: lack of communication, lack of resources, lack of clear roles and responsibilities, lack of information sharing, negative professional attitude)  Discuss why these barriers/obstacles occurred in the case study  Then show how the obstacles could have/had impacted on service users, professionals and agencies. (choose at least 3 or 4 of the barriers and discuss extensively on each of them one after the other) (For additional information see lecture slide week 8). 3.3 Devise strategies to improve outcomes for partnership working in health and social care services. You MUST link these to some the outcomes and barriers you indentified in 3.1 and 3.2 (ie the issues in Adult A)  Identify the outcomes and barriers that require improvement  How can these outcomes be improve using strategies such as: Training staff, Regular team meetings, appointing a lead professional, effective communication, adequate resources, clear roles and responsibilities etc.  Give reasons for your suggestions and why these strategies need to be implemented as well as step by step approach for the implementation of these strategies (For additional information see lecture slide week 9).
