To maintain this standing, the council is commissioning you to create a report on the potential for a Smart Cities: Open Internet of Things initiative. As part of this report you are to investigate two internet of things and/or networking & telecoms infrastructures as they could be applied to an open IoT infrastructure for the Sunshine Coast. As an initial proof-of-concept, SCC has commissioned a smart parking app, that can sense when parks are available, and route a user to the nearest free park. Initially this installation will occur at the Sippy Downs Campus of the University of the Sunshine Coast; however, it is envisaged that the parking project will be extended into Maroochydore, and then across all SCC building locations. In this report, you need to select or design two internet of things solutions. You should also compare and contrast two selected (or designed) infrastructures/technology solutions based on appropriateness for the Sunshine Coast Council area's current and predicted future needs. You should consider 1. Infrastructure E.g. Internet connection, LAN, Wireless LANs, Other wireless technologies (Blutooth LE, RF, etc), Cellular/WAN, IoT specific technologies/infrastructures 2. Existing Technology Solutions E.g. LoRaWAN, OpenIoT 3. Data Storage and Processing Facilities E.g. Data centers, Cloud computing, distributed storage and processing The items listed in each category are not compulsory or complete. Some items can span across several categories. You have the freedom to include any item you feel important. When you provide solutions to each category, remember to explain their benefits to some of the following items: • Power utilization/storage • Cost (initial: e.g. of hardware, or ongoing: e.g. traffic costs) • Security/Privacy • Openness/Ease of use • Data ownership/AccessibilityICT220 Telecommunications and Networks Task 2 Page 4 of 6 Report Format Your report should be no less than 1,500 words and it would be best to be no longer than 2,500 words long.
