Assignment title: Information

Hi All, You can follow the report format given next for your design project. 1. Executive summary followed by Introduction (Design Brief – background information to the project, your task, etc), Assumptions Used in the analysis and design (any limitations), and findings (list final sections sizes for the truss and any recommendations). This section can be 6 to 8 pages long. Everything else can be in appendices Appendix A: Load evaluation calculations (Determination of the loads acting on each of the purlin node (dead and wind loads) Appendix B: SPACE GASS analysis results You must provide the screenshots of the following - Applied dead load, Applied wind loads for Cases 1 to 3 (ultimate limit state) - Bending moment diagrams for all 6 combinations - Axial force diagrams for all 6 combinations - Shear force diagrams for all 6 combinations - Applied loads (serviceability limit state) - Deflection diagrams for the serviceability limit states: However, it is Ok to use the deflection diagram for the ultimate strength limit state and approximately multiply by 0.40 to obtain the deflection for checking against the limit of span/250 Make sure the values are visible in the diagrams. Appendix C: Design calculations - Top chord (T section) - Side member (T section) - Bottom chord (T section) - Web/middle members (angle section) - Column (Universal column section) 5. Deflection check - You can take the serviceability wind load as 40% of the ultimate wind load - For deflection checks, use span/150 for overall truss deflection under wind loading. You may also wish to check the individual member deflection under the worst load case with a limit of span/250. Other important information: 1. You do not need to design any connections for this project, but if you like (for practice), you can design some connections. 2. You do not need perform shear or bearing designs for the members 3. You do not need to consider any holes when designing for tension 4. Hand written calculations are ok, but make sure they are readable 5. You must do all the design calculations from basic. You cannot directly use the design capacity table values, but you can always use them to verify your hand calculations. However, for bending capacity calculations you are allowed to directly use the Zex values from the property table. In all other cases (PhiNsx, PhiNcx, PhiNcy, PhiMsx, PhiMbx), you must submit the basic calculations. 6. We will not mark any excel spread sheets. Please make sure you submit typed or hand written calculations.
