Background information: Hotel businesses consume large amounts of natural resources, discharge large amounts of raw and solid waste which consequently affects the natural environment. The Australian Government is raising awareness through creating initiatives and plans for businesses to take responsibility of the impact that it creates on the environment and adopt best practices for businesses such as "Going Green". Hotel businesses have benefited from environmental initiatives through improving their corporate image and increasing resource and energy efficiency. Hotel Kingston is concerned about being up to date and current with Government legislation changes and would like to develop and implement an Environmental Management System which they can set targets for improvement on providing sustainable business and increasing public awareness on "Green Initiatives" as part of quality assurance. Task1: Students to research Environmental Management Systems within the hotel sector and create a policy statement about how to incorporate environmental and sustainable practices into Hotel Kingston . " Environmental management system (EMS) refers to the management of an organization's environmental programs in a comprehensive, systematic, planned and documented manner. It includes the organizational structure, planning and resources for developing, implementing and maintaining policy for environmental protection."
