Assignment title: Information

MSC8001 Research Project Methodology Literature Review Assignment Requirements Your dissertation will contain a literature review, either explicitly as a separate chapter, or embedded throughout the dissertation. The choice depends upon the conventions of your academic discipline, and the kind of project, and will be determined in consultation with your supervisor. The Literature Review assignment can take a range of forms between the following limits. • A draft of the standalone literature review chapter that will appear in your dissertation. • An annotated bibliography of the complete set of literature that you have located and reviewed during the initial phase of the project. Whatever form the Review takes, the following requirements must be met. 1. The Review must include a properly formatted list of references. 2. The information in each reference should be complete (i.e. contain enough information for a reader to locate it). 3. The style (e.g. author-date or numeric) is not mandated, but the style must be consistently applied to all references. 4. Every reference must be cited in the body of the Review using a consistent citation style. 5. Some level of judgement should be applied to each cited work. You should not just provide a summary of the paper (though the reader does need to know what the paper is about). Consider at least the following: • How is this work related to other reported work? For any pair of papers: what are the similarities and differences, and does one depend on the work of another? • How is this work related to research questions/project aims? • Can you classify groups of papers by some criterion?
