Digital Image Creation and Development
Scenario
City College is looking to produce new marketing material for advertising the college and its
courses. It is primarily looking at producing new posters to promote the computing department
with a secondary aim in increasing the number of female students on the programme.
Your final images should therefore be informative, professional, eye-catching and presentable.
A detailed user requirements brief is provided at the end of this assignment. You must carefully
study this to ensure you meet all the listed requirements.
Task 1: (L01 - 1.1) Identify a minimum of 5 different sources for digital images that you
are going to use for your images.
Task 2: (L01 - 1.2) Create the following digital images from a range of minimum 4
different sources for being used in graphical posters and college website.
Images of college building
Images of rooms and library
Map of the college
College logo
Any other image that you find relevant to college marketing material
1. Save all your image files with relevant names in one folder.
2. Rename your image files to relevant names.
3. Clearly show the information about your image files including their name, type of file, file size
and image dimension. You can show this by printing a screen shot of your image folder details
view.
4. Clearly identify the source of each image.
Task 3: (L02 - 2.1)
a) Identify common file formats and define their main features.
b) Identify fundamentals required to process image data including screen resolution, dpi and
file size.

Task 4: (L02 - 2.2)
To complete this task, first you need to complete tasks 2 and 5.
Apply digital data management techniques to store Imagery including:
Appropriate and relevant file names
Suitable file type
Suitable resolution,
Suitable file size with use of compression
Clearly show the information about your edited image files including their name, type of file, file
size and image dimension. You can show this by printing a screen shot of your image folder
details view.
Task 5: (L03 - 3.1)
Duplicate your image folder and use software tools (such as Picasa, Microsoft Office Picture
Manager, pixlr or photoshop) to manipulate and prepare images for being used in a poster and
web pages. You need to use a range of tools such as:
Adding text
Add border
Cropping
Size adjustment
Painting
Colour balance
Simple filters
Colour balance
As evidence, include copies of your images before and after editing into your assignment
document. Under each image, briefly identify what software you used and what tools you
used to edit the image.
Aiming for higher grades: you can use a range of other tools to improve your work and aim for
higher grades. Tools such as filters, layers, exposure, duplicating, levels, curves, hue, saturation,

Task 6: (L03 - 3.2) Prepare your image files for following outputs:
a) PNG files in size 1920 x 1080 pixels and suitable quality for being used in college website
gallery.
b) A number of your images converted to PDF format for print in brochures.
Task 7: (L04 - 4.1) Evaluate own use of digital images in meeting college requirements. In
your evaluation, discuss positive and negative points of your use of digital images.
Task 8: (L04 - 4.2) Evaluate others' use of digital images in meeting specified purposes.
Review other students' edited images and discuss positive and negative points.
