Rationale: A literature review is an analysis of research and other academic literature that identifies the 'what', 'who' 'where' and 'why' of a chosen topic. A literature review is usually associated with thesis writing. Literature reviews are also part of project and programme development. A review provides us with what is current in the field and where gaps are that need to be addressed. This assignment will give you an opportunity to further develop literature review writing skills. This focus is on culture in practice and covers a wide range of topics. TOPICS choose one (1) of the following topics: 1. Identify and discuss literature related to theories of culture in relation to yourself, your profession, organisation and the communities in which you work. How do these theories influence and shape personal, professional, organisational structures and how might they enable or constrain protection of cultural identity and promotion of well-being of people using health services. This may include addressing literature on culture, power, values, attitudes, health beliefs, power in health settings and professional codes of conduct. OR 2. Explore specific concept or idea that has relevance for you in your practice. This may include but is not limited to: power, values, attitude, ideology, neoliberalism, colonisation, indigeneity, racism, mono culturalism, multiculturalism, self-determination, trust, relationship, hegemony, partnership. You may link two or three concepts. OR 3. Choose your own topic not addressed above. Please discuss this with your lecturer. A marking criteria to address the topic will be provided. Assessment Item 3 Description/Focus: Written paper, PowerPoint, Lesson plan Value: 40% Due date: Monday Week 11 Length: This assignment relates to Learning outcomes, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. 2,000 + or – 10% Total for three pieces. Task: Rationale: Developing a scholarly, critically reflective approach to practice requires us to identify, explore, examine and share the subject we have studied – identify, explore, explain, examine, disseminate, or, information, examination, demonstration. The assignment provides an opportunity to integrate learning from the unit. It will enable to practice developing a Power Point presentation. This is currently the main tool for disseminating knowledge and learning to your peers. Any good presentation starts with a paper outlining and briefly discussing the main points of a topic. A Power Point is then developed form this paper. The third part of this process I application. This involves a written lesson plan that guides how you will develop the presentation and manage the process of delivery. This involves managing the content and the group process when presenting. The short paper, the PowerPoint and the plan are the three key pieces of work that will be submitted.. Topics: 1. Choose a topic from the learning materials for HEA401. Write a short paper. Provide an introduction, identify why you chose the topic in relation to your practice, outline key points, discuss and conclude. OR 1b. Outline and analyse the key components of a framework for health professionals to engage in effective and respectful communication with Indigenous peoples in regards to the delivery of health services. OR 1c. Discuss the construct(s) of culture within yourself, your profession, your organisation and the communities in which you work. You will need to explore your own culturally embedded values, beliefs and practices, as well as develop an appreciation of the professional cultures of colleagues and social cultures of clients. There needs to be an emphasis on how culture impacts the way you work and how you can work more appropriately and effectively within diverse cultures. OR 1d You may choose/adapt any other topic for the essay. This can be negotiated with the unit coordinator and will conform to the learning outcomes and content of the unit. A marking criteria for this option will be provided. 2. Drawing on the short paper, Develop a 7 slide Power Point , excludes introduction and reference list. 3. Outline a lesson plan. Identify a group. How you will manage the group process? How you will present the slides?
