Assessment 3: Conduct an Interview
Student Instructions
This assessment has been designed to allow you to demonstrate your communication,
facilitation, negotiation, analytical and evaluation skills to complete client assessment.
You are required to conduct a role play interview based on a case study dealing with a
particular client group and you will be required to complete a complex assessment of the
client.
Please complete this assessment based on Kevin's case study. This enables you to
research relevant issues to the case study, identifying what services are available to the
client, which intervention models work most effectively with that client group, and any
legislative requirements.
Case Study Scenario
Approximately two weeks after his original visit, Kevin Smith requests another meeting with
you.
(Kevin, Manu and Tama have all had two sessions with the family counsellor from
MissionOZ)
Kevin attends your office as arranged, about 30 minutes late in a dishevelled state.
When Kevin begins to talk you notice his eyes are bloodshot and you smell alcohol on his
breath. Kevin is clearly distressed and starts by saying 'I don't know what to do with him
anymore, I can't stand it'. He goes on to say that Tama had another outburst yesterday and
did considerable damage to furniture and punched holes in the walls of their rental property.
Kevin states that when he and Manu tried to intervene, Tama threatened to assault them
both and Kevin believes that with this escalation of violent behaviour he is unable to keep
Manu and himself safe.
1. You are required to submit a plan to your tutor before the interview/role play is
conducted. This must include:
a. The issues in your case study which your plan will address.
b. Any support system you feel would be prudent.CHCCM503C Assessment 3 V3.0

On approval of the interview/role play arrange for someone to participate as the 'client'.
Brief the participant on the questions and case study prior to conducting the interview.
Note: You must arrange an appointment with your tutor who will observe you conducting
the interview while undertaking this assessment. This role could be played by your tutor if
required. Distance students using a third party as the 'client' will need to video the role play
and upload the video for tutor observation and marking. Alternatively, the role play may be
completed with your tutor acting in the role of the client.
The role play will involve a 10 to15-minute interview with the client. This role play will
assess your ability to appropriately apply and utilise skills and methods from the
intervention models presented and to complete a complex assessment of a client.
2. Complete a case note of this interview and follow this up with a complex
assessment.
