Performance objective An OHS manager must have a clear idea of which stage the workplace and organisation is at in relation to OHS in order to plan and respond appropriately. This means that the manager must be able to plan and undertake audits which check the documented framework of OHS policies and supporting procedures of OHS management systems in the organisation. The manager must also be able to report on the audit outcomes in a helpful manner to all interested parties. Specifications The following are to be submitted:  Plan of audit process including time line for completion.  Development of audit checklist.  Log book of activities including brief minutes of meetings and all development time and actions undertaken.  Audit report including data summaries, analysis and proposals for action (including hazard identification) and communication strategies. Adjustment for distance-based learners ● No variation of the task is required. ● A follow-up interview may be required (at the discretion of the assessor). ● Documentation can be submitted electronically or posted in the mail. Assessment description You must plan and undertake an audit of the documented frameworks of the OHS management system at a workplace and report on the outcomes to the OHS manager there. Procedure 1. Choose an organisation (real or imagined) that requires a documented OHS system. 2. Obtain or create a copy of the OHS set of policies, procedures and record of performances. 3. Develop a plan and timeline for the OHS systems documentation audit. 4. Assume you have an appointment with the OHS manager at the workplace and discuss the plan. Note what quality systems framework the organisation has and the impacts that it has on the OHS system. 5. Develop the audit checklist and check it. Ensure that the checklist clearly evaluates the OHS system in line with the organisation's quality systems framework. 6. Undertake the audit using the documents you have obtained or prepared and list any areas of work that you might visit. 7. Analyse the results of the audit, providing summaries for the data in tables where appropriate. Propose actions to address any problems that might become obvious. Ensure that you include hazard identification for each of the stages that will be involved in making these changes to the workplace. Suggest some methods for communicating the findings to the managers and employees as part of the report. 8. Present the audit report to the OHS manager.
