Deliverables
Answer the following questions with respect to advanced database administration.
Task # 1 Submit a work proposal for this assignment by the end of week 9th i.e. 10th Dec, 2016 (11:55 pm) which must include:
• Understanding of deliverables – a detail description of deliverables
• General overview of proposed plan - initial understanding of solution for the task-2 to task-4.
• Resources identified
The work proposal must be submitted in a word file through the link available in Moodle. 10
Task # 2 "DB caching improves the performance."
In light of the above context, as a DBA, outline and discuss a DB caching in the middle tier of server architecture.
You may refer to the research article "Middle-Tier Database Caching for e-Business *", provided in the Moodle as web link. Your solution must be applicable for any database system but not for a specific product. However, you may include some examples from a specific DBMS product for illustration. The discussion must be in your own words and not exceeding two pages. 30
Task # 3 Consider you are working as a Database Administrator for a certain organization. One of your job responsibilities is to load data from external data sources into the organization's database. Prepare a solution to achieve the following tasks:
• Loading data from a variable length format data file.
• Loading data from a fixed length format data file.
• The data must include at least three data types of which a date column must be included.
The solution must include brief explanation of steps involved in loading of external data into the database. Mere writing of commands will not help you in gaining full marks. You may choose any database system of your choice available in the college lab (MS SQL Server / Oracle). 30
Task # 4 Prepare for a presentation in Week#12 on "redo logs and archiving".
Note:
• You must include the contents of this presentation slides in the assignment document file you upload in Moodle.
• You may prepare 12-15 slides for the presentation.
• Duration of presentation is 10 minutes. 30

Note: DO NOT DIRECTLY COPY/PASTE FROM INTERNET/BOOKS! DO NOT COPY FROM ONE ANOTHER! PRODUCE YOUR OWN ASSIGNMENT SOLUTION REPORT. The work submitted must be your own and must not be based on inputs from others. Your assignments shall be submitted to electronic databases to identify plagiarism. Plagiarism Policy:
Plagiarised documents, in parts or whole, submitted by the students will be rejected.
For the first offence of plagiarism, a student enrolled in undergraduate programme is penalised with a deduction of 25% of the maximum marks on the assessment as per the plagiarism policy statement and is allowed to re-submit the work once, within a week's period. The student has the right to appeal against the decision made, to the respective Programme Coordinator. Further appeal on decision taken may be made to the Head of the concerned department. If the student is not satisfied by the decisions taken by the department, he/she can appeal to the Plagiarism Appeals Committee.
For the second offence of plagiarism against the student, (committed in any semester after the semester of the student's first offence of plagiarism in the tenure of the student in the undergraduate programme), the student is awarded zero in the assessment where plagiarised content was found. The student is not allowed to re-submit the assessment. The student has the right to appeal against the decision made to the respective Programme Coordinator. Further appeal on decision taken may be made to the Head of the concerned department. If the student is not satisfied by the decisions taken by the department, s/he can appeal to the Plagiarism Appeals Committee.
Repeated offences of plagiarism by the student (more than two times) are dealt with as per the college policy on Academic Dishonesty as mentioned in the Student Handbook (6.2).
All decisions on plagiarism related offences will be communicated to the student by the respective module instructors, using routine channels of communication with students, currently used by the college, preferably on the same day the charges are confirmed or the very next working day.
Late Submission
Penalty for late submission – 5 % of the maximum mark specified for the assessment will be deducted for each working day. Assessment documents submitted beyond a period of one week after the last date of submission will not be accepted and will be marked as ZERO for the assessment. (Reference: Module Information Guide)
Rules & Regulations
• If any topic or diagram of an assignment is found copied from the other then marks will be deducted from both assignments.
• Assignments with 3 or more identical topics will be awarded 0 Marks.
