REPORT GIS Implementation in a small consultancy Introduction You are newly appointed as the GIS Manager for a small commercial consultancy which does not yet have any in-house GIS software or Hardware. Prior to your appointment, all GIS work for your clients was contracted out to a large external GIS Consultancy. Internal expertise was only used to guide the GIS consultancy as and when necessary – but only in terms of the application not the GIS technology or the analysis. Task Write a short Report that outlines the steps that you would undertake as a GIS Manager to implement GIS in your consultancy with special reference to the problems and issues that you might expect to encounter and the solutions you would need to put in place to overcome these. Please provide an indication of the nature of work your consultancy undertakes e.g. coastal and marine management, forestry, business, planning etc. as part of your report. Note that the consultancy is only small (15-20 employees (some are support staff)) and it is not envisaged that any more GIS appointments will be made in the short term, although one junior applications specialist with a background in GIS might possibly be considered when the GIS has been successfully implemented. In light of this, the expectation is that the current staff will become the GIS users, and some consideration of the way IT and GIS technology is evolving should therefore be taken into account when drafting your outline plan for GIS implementation.
