For your paper, you will choose a feature-length film and either a) discuss one important scene in depth, or b) consider the function of selected musical themes throughout the film. You will develop an original thesis that will allow you to discuss the function of the music. Possible topics include an analysis of performance, thematic relationship of the music to the film, and/or any of the themes we discussed in class (gender, race, nationalism, etc). You will be developing a thesis that should be argued convincingly and supported with your engagement with your musical example(s). Your final paper should be no less than 5 full pages in length.
