Economic debate on t he structure of the supermarket industry in Australia focuses on whether or not: (a) Coles and Woolworths dominate the industry (b) Competition is good for Australian consumers Task: Students will complete a research-based analysis and evaluation of the supermarket market industry in Australia and defend the following two propositions: • Part I: Coles and Woolworths have too much market power in the Australian supermarket industry. [25 marks = 15%] Word Limit: 1400 • Part II: Competition between Coles and Woolworths is good for Australians now and into the future. [75 marks = 30%] Word Limit: 1800 Research requirements: Students need to support their analysis with a minimum of 12 academic journal articles plus the text. Students aiming for a Credit or higher grade will need to use more sources. Articles should be relevant and recent. Non-academic journal sources may also be used, but relevant and validity should be identified with the lecturer/tutor. Presentation:  The response to each part needs to be developed into a professionally presented report of 3200 + 10% words.  Title page, executive summary, table of contents, appropriate headings and sub-headings, recommendations/findings/conclusions, in-text referencing and reference list (Harvard –Anglia style), attachments if relevant.  Single spaced; Font Times New Roman 12pt, Calibri 11pt or Arial 10pt. Method of Submission: Submit a soft copy on Turnitin and Submit hardcopy to library front desk.
