Assignment title: Management
We have to respond to this students write up - This is what student Melanie has written and I have to respond to her either agreeing or disagreeing with her post and also adding to our bit of infor with 2 academic reference so this is what she wrote Melanie's Post: Employers are no longer recruiting. They are now being recruited. Attractive salary packages are not the only factor considered when looking for a prospective employer. 'In Fortune (2011) magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" survey, not a single person cited money as a motive of why they loved the place they worked for' (Magbool et al 2016, p540). Alignment to a person's values and their view of the world is driving their choice of potential employers (Javier 2013). So how do you win the war for top talent? I believe that Corporate Sustainability is a critical factor in attracting and retaining a highly talented workforce. It is a key differentiator in an increasingly competitive market, demonstrated in the results of 'a survey commissioned by the Global Reporting Initiative in 2010' which highlighted that 'prospective employees are turning to sustainability reports to decide whether to work for a company' (Magbool et al 2016, p541). Take Westpac for example, their Corporate Sustainability program is a key attribute in attracting talent, with a heavy focus on flexible working practices, community involvement and ongoing investment in personal development. In their Annual Sustainability Report 2016, Westpac promotes that 74% of employees use flexible work arrangements, 48% of leadership positions are now held by women and they are retaining 95% of high performers 'creating an inclusive workplace that supports greater diversity, productivity and engagement' (Westpac Annual Sustainability Report 2016). Research has found that sustainability practices of an organisation increase the attractiveness and sense of trustworthiness of that organisation for potential employees (Camilleri 2016). Showcasing and sharing stories of a company's 'commitment to the community at large' engages both current and potential employees providing a leading edge for organisations to attract and retain talent (Camilleri 2016, p58).
