These will be available to you just after your second assignment has been submitted. Choose one of the media articles or case studies listed by the lecturer in your Interact 2 subject site. Use the title of the article/case study provided in interact 2 as the title of your essay, so that the lecturer knows which article you are analysing. Undertake further research about your chosen case, to assist you in analysing and discussing it in your essay. You are required to complete the following: Write an essay: The word limit for the essay is 1,000 words ± 10%. Headings, citations and references do not count towards the word limit, but quotations do. Analyse the article/case study from the perspective of at least two different classical ethical theories, one of which must be that of "Just Consequentialism". Present well reasoned arguments for your assessments and recommendations. Write an overall conclusion that justifies your recommendations made in your essay. Include a Reference list at the end of your work, in the correct APA referencing style, corresponding to in-text citations. Rationale This assessment extends the skills practiced in Assessment item 1 and 2, to help you to achieve all the learning objectives. In addition to identifying a contentious situation in ICT and dissecting the argument(s) about it, you must also now demonstrate the ability to evaluate the elements of the argument by introducing classical ethical principles where appropriate. Since Assessment item 1 and 2, your knowledge will have grown, and you will now realise that almost all ICT ethical dilemmas can be classified under one of the main ICT ethical issues that are discussed in this subject; for instance, surveillance is a sub-issue of privacy, harmful software is a sub-issue of ICT professionalism, and piracy is a sub-issue of intellectual property. In ICT, the main ethical issues are taken to be: ICT professionalism Privacy Security Cyber-crime Intellectual property Regulation on the internet Social inclusion Community and identity Pervasive and convergent computing. The assessment item is designed to help you to build skills towards achieving the learning objectives, by requiring you to: identify an ICT-related ethical issue from a media article or case study; apply classical ethical theory to the analysis of an ethically questionable situation to determine the rightness or wrongness of actions/decisions made therein; derive logical and justifiable conclusions to resolve the ethical issue(s);and, apply proper academic referencing. The story must not be split over multiple sections: it must all be contained in this section. It must not contain any of your opinions on what is right or wrong. You should do research on the internet to find more details of the story and it should be simply and clearly reported as you would find in a newspaper article. 2) The Stakeholders : Under this heading you must make a numerical list of all the participants and those effected by this story. 3) Ethical Issues : Under this heading you must make a numerical list of all the actions made by stakeholders in this story, which you regard as possibly unethical and which you intend to analyse in section 6 below. 4) Non-Ethical Issues : Under this heading you must make a numerical list of all the actions made by stakeholders in this story, which you do not regard as unethical and which you do not intend to analyse in section 6 below. 5) Consequences : Under this heading you must make a numerical list of all the consequences of all the actions made by stakeholders in this story both the ethical and possibly unethical actions. 6) Ethical Analysis a. Consequentialism Under this sub-heading you must analyse all the actions that you listed in section 3 above according to the classical Ethical Theory known as Consequentialism. This means that for each of these actions you answer the question: "Is this action ethical according to Consequentialism?". You must also give good reasoning for your answers. Note that for this assignment you can choose any of the 5 other classical Ethics Theories taught in this subject instead of the Consequentialism theory. b. Just Consequentialism Under this sub-heading you must analyse all the actions that you listed in section 3 above according to the modern Ethical Theory known as Just Consequentialism. This means that for each of these actions you must answer the question: "Is this action ethical according to Just Consequentialism?". You must also give good reasoning for your answers. (I have provided you with information on Just Consequentialism and a reference paper on it in the Resources section of Interact2.) 7) Options : Under this heading you must give a numerical list of 5 or more suggestions that you have as alternative actions that could have been taken by the stake holders that would be ethical actions. 8) Conclusions : Under this heading you must say which of the options you listed in section 7 you recommend being adopted so that problems as listed in section 5 will not be repeated in the future. You must also give good reasons and reasoning for why you chose this recommendation. 9) References : In this section you must give a numbered list of 7 or more references all in the correct APA format starting with the author's surname, then his initial and then the year of publication in brackets eg (2016) with no month or day included, and then the title of the publication and then the details of where that publication can be found (which can also include the full date of publication i.e. the year, month and day). Every reference that you place here must be relevant and must be cited at least once somewhere in your assignment report in the format (Surname, year) where Surname is the surname of the author and year is the year of publication.
