Assignment title: Management

Scenario and Questions For a relatively small country, Canada has been home over the years to a number of iconic companies, some of which have expanded their markets globally. One of these is Bombardier, Inc., a diversified transportation company based in the province of Quebec. Although Bombardier has had many successes throughout its long history, it has had a number of strategic challenges in recent years which connect directly to concepts in the first half of our course. As a result, it has had a number of recent layoff actions and announced another round of layoffs just in the past week. It has also lobbied the federal government for a financial bailout, in addition to the funds already contributed by Quebec to help shore up its operations. At the close of the markets yesterday, Bombardier's share price had dropped to around $1.20 CAD. Use your research and critical thinking skills to answer the following questions about Bombardier. 1. What forces in the General and Task environments are currently impacting Bombardier's business? Describe specifically how these forces could impact the future success of the company. 2. Perform a SWOT Analysis on the company and its products and services. 3. Based on your research, what do you think are Bombardier's Mission, Vision, and Strategic Goals? 4. Outline the company's Corporate Level, Business Level, and Diversification strategies. Comment on the feasibility of the strategies you identified. As an outside consultant, would you recommend any changes, and if so, what would those changes be? 5. Describe the company's policies and practices in the areas of Business Ethics and Sustainability. General Instructions As future managers in the Canadian and global business environment, it is important that during your time in school, you become familiar with important developments in Canadian business. The questions on this exam challenge you to demonstrate your understanding of important concepts in weeks 1 to 6 of the course, and your ability to apply those concepts to a current business news story. Please note the following: 1. In addition to completing the textbook reading for weeks 1 through 6, you will need to do research (online or in hard-copy Library sources) to answer the questions. You should plan on using at least 5 credible outside sources (i.e., not blogs or Wikipedia). 2. The exam is not time-limited. You may take as much time as you like and start and stop as often as you like. 3. The sources you use should be credited with in-text citations. You should also include a reference list at the end of your exam. Both your citations and your reference list must be in correct APA format. 4. You may number each of the questions separately on your examination document. It is not necessary to write your exam as a single integrated paper. 5. Feel free to use graphics for some of the questions (e.g., the SWOT analysis) to convey your information succinctly. 6. Please prepare your exam as a double-spaced Word document, and submit it through Blackboard, using the link provided in the Assignments tab. 7. Length of your submitted exam should be approximately 10 double-spaced pages. 8. This is an individual assignment; all class members must complete their exams separately. 9.
