Task: Description In this assignment, you will: Analyse an ICT business proposal from a communications perspective with the aim to improve its communication effectiveness. Complete a self-analysis of your document from a communications perspective. Peer assess three assignments, including your own. There are two deadlines for this assignment: one for submission of your analysis, and the second for your peer assessment. Alternative Documents An ICT business proposal is provided for your evaluation. Alternatively, you may evaluate a proposal or other document related to your employment provided it contains arguments that attempt to persuade an audience. Alternative documents must be approved by your lecturer. You must include the document in your submission. Note that other students will see your document during the peer assessment phase. Analysis of Business Proposal (700-800 words) You should analyse the business proposal from a communications perspective. In your analysis, you should consider the concepts from the first four weeks of the course. For example: Communications model, e.g., identify the audience, discuss implications of context, channel and environment, identify opportunities for feedback, and potential sources of interference. Message, e.g., identify and/or discuss the use of language, emphasis strategies, effective writing strategies, arguments, and style. Organisation, e.g., thesis, outline, paragraph organisation, sentence organisation and transitions. Sources, e.g., authority, accuracy and relevance. Recommendations (200-300 words) You should recommend how to improve the communication effectiveness of the business proposal. For each of your recommendations, you should apply logos, ethos and pathos to persuade the reader. In particular, you should build a structured argument using Toulmin's model for each of your recommendations. Self-Analyse Your Assignment (200-400 words) You should analyse your assignment to help yourself and your peer assessors understand how you have met the assessment criteria. You should: Provide breakdowns of your structured arguments by identifying your, e.g., claims, data, warrants, and argumentation strategies, and Identify strategies you have used to address the style/voice criterion from the assessment criteria. Other aspects that you should consider include: Communications model, e.g., identify your audience, discuss implications of context, channel and environment, identify opportunities for feedback, and potential sources of interference. Message, e.g., identify and/or discuss your use of language, emphasis strategies, effective writing strategies. Peer Assessments After the first assignment deadline has passed, the Assignment will change from Submission to Assessment phase. You will be allocated three assignments to peer assess, including your own. You will assess the three assignments using the assignment criteria. Your grade will be determined by adding your Submission grade and your Assessment grade. Your Submission grade will be determined using the peer assessments moderated by the course staff. Your Assessment grade will be based on how closely your assessments match those of others, including the course staff. Business Report Framing You should frame your assignment as a business report.
