Assignment title: Management
Prepare a visual summary of major contextual events, styles/movements, designers and selected significant creations related to one chosen discipline. The date parameters for each discipline are determined by the topics covered in their respective seminars. Compile your timeline with suitable text, images and overall graphic design. You need to select the most important facts and not try and include everything you find. The minimum to achieve would be 150 historical facts. This timeline should be your own work and demonstrate abilities listed on the Criteria Referenced Assessment Sheet. ow do I prepare this timeline? Use the recommended texts and lecture notes related to your discipline seminar series as a foundation for your timeline selections. Start gathering dates and data (and sources) for these entries from week 6 to manage your workload better. Explore the many examples of timeline design starting with the ones listed on our Blackboard site and so develop your own approach that will meet the format requirements of this brief. REFERENCING: Use QUT Harvard style (CIF preferred) referencing method (see QUT cite / write). Make a separate 'List of References' (not a bibliography) at the end of the timeline. Cite your image references in full in this list, see sampling on next page. Include the vital identifiers at start of timeline document: TITLE (Timeline for your discipline), your name, student number, unit code and unit name (DEB202 Introducing Design History), and year (2014) Competent and accurate written English expression is vital to your future design practice; it is a valuable tool in communicating with and persuading clients and colleagues. Competent graphic design is another vital aspect of effective communication and self-promotion for a designer. Submit timeline to Assignment Minder by Friday 7 November 2014. What format should I use? Prepare a professional looking, interesting design. Text should be legible and clear; images should not be pixelated or blurry. Use whatever software is easiest for you. Size parameters: when folded the hardcopy timeline document should fit within a standard Assignment Minder A4 folder. Options include one sheet that forms a long rectangle (210 or 296mm wide and whatever length) and folded back to A4 size; multiple A4 size sheets bound on left side; A1 sheet folded down to A4; or it could be something smaller than A4 when folded or bound together (avoid going smaller than A6); etc. Use margins of about 10mm top, bottom and sides. Margins are there to prevent your printer/copier chopping off bits of your text or image. There is no minimum/maximum word limit but at least 150 entries should be selected. Number each entry (to be sure you reach 150). Select images carefully and should be large enough to be recognisable. Not all entries need an image. To help your design, you can replace the traditional captioning under the images with just a figure number. Then create a list of Figures at the end of document and there cite your sources properly. The traditional method of captioning is what you have used in the poster and essay assignments, namely, place suitable captions under the images. Number and name each image thus
