Assignment Outcomes The case study will help you to evaluate, analyze and design of control system. Guidelines: • Assignment must be computer typed.  Font - Times New Roman  Font – Style - Regular  Font - Size - 12 • Softcopy of the written report is to be submitted through Turnitin. • Group Effort. Members in each group must be assigned responsibilities to the completion of the case-study. • Oral presentation. Groups will be presenting the results to a panel, composed of the adviser and another competent panelist. Marks will be awarded based on the written paper and oral presentation. An assessment rubric will be discussed with the students. • Material resources. Refer books in Library or use internet resource is encouraged. The answers should be in your own words after understanding the matter from the above resources. Exactly copying paragraphs is strictly not allowed. Rules & Regulations • If any two assignments are similar, then questions (viva) on the assignment will be asked to both groups. If either/both groups fail to explain the approach to the solution, marks will be deducted as per the plagiarism policy*. The viva voce does not carry any marks. • Your source of information should be mentioned in the reference page clearly. (For example: If it's from book, you have to mention the full details of the book with title, author name, edition and publisher's name. If it is from the internet you have to mention the correct URL). • Title Page must have Assignment SET, Module name, student names, ID. Numbers, Session and the name of the faculty. • Any late submissions will result in the deduction of marks as per the late submission policy*. • Refer MIG for feedback dates on assignment. * Refer to the MIG for MEC policy on plagiarism and late submission. Date of Submission of written report: January 10, 2017 Consider a cruise control system shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 Where f is the engine force, v is the velocity, fb is the friction force, and fb = bv. Requirements: Assuming M = 2000 kg, b = 50Nsec/m, and f = 500 N: a. Find the transfer function of the system. b. Design a PID controller that satisfies the following: i. Rise time is less than 6 sec. ii. Maximum overshoot is less than 8%. c. Analyze the system performance of the uncompensated and compensated systems and comment on the percentage improvement. Provide the simulation results to prove the improvement.
