Assignment title: Management

Scenario You recently participated in a project addressing the impacts of 5p policy in the UK. You collaborated closely with your groupmates and attended several brainstorming and development sessions from early October 2016 to 2th December 2016. During these sessions- either face-to-face or through emails, chat rooms, etc. - your team discussed how to make use of course materials and address requirements of the coursework. You collectively developed a business understanding of the case, a causal diagram, and a proposal. Together, you explored possible policies, wrote a final coursework, and presented your work. An important element of any successful team work is the collective ability of team members to develop and present innovate ideas. Researchers suggest that by paying attention to team communication patterns we can understand, evaluate, and eventually improve team and subsequently organizational performance. Individual Coursework The Individual Coursework has three steps. Develop Causal Loop Diagram (20 marks): You need to use causal loop diagram using Vensim as a useful method to utilise data from your real-world team experience and construct a model that shows how your team worked toward developing and presenting innovative ideas. Develop a Stock and Flow Diagram (20 marks): You need to use stock and flow diagram using Vensim construct a model that shows how your team worked toward developing and presenting innovative ideas. Develop Solutions for Future Team Work: Based on your findings in steps 1 and 2, you need to propose how the teamwork could be improved. You use Causal loop diagram or Stock and Flow Diagram to support why this suggestion is a plausible idea. This is an individual course work and should be done by each individual separately. Supportive Ideas Data collection tools are necessary to facilitate the process of building your models. You should write notes after each group meeting. The best is to record (1) a one page summary after each meeting, (2) monthly one- page assessment (End of October; End of November; Right after your final presentation). You may attach some of them in the Appendix of your final assignment to demonstrate the models are based on analysis over time. The suggested template for after-group meeting notes captures information such as. Remember the idea is to provide a quick summary so remain within boundaries of a one-page summary for each meeting. 1. Date of the meeting: 2. Location of the meeting: 3. Who was present/ Who was absent (and why) 4. Was the meeting useful? (Why or why not) 5. What could be improved? 6. What inhibited people from sharing their ideas? Be as specific as you can. Submission Details Formative Plan Each student must submit a formative plan for tackling the coursework, handed in electronically via Blackboard by 28 October 2016 (4 pm). Final coursework without this initial formative submission will not receive marks. The formative document is a great opportunity to receive feedback during your work. The Page 3 of 3 feedback will be provided right after the reading week. The formative plan should be three pages: (1) your overall assessment about your group team work, (2) your strategy to keep track of the team work communication, (3) your initial causal loop diagram of the dynamics of team work communication for your group. Coursework Each student submits a report (2000-2500 words, excluding references) electronically via Blackboard by 9 January 2017 (4 pm). Individuals are advised to keep a copy of group submission. NOTE: In line with AMBS policy, the late submission of assignments carries a penalty. The policy is explained in the Full Course Descriptions. Communication Channels 1. Feedback session on formative plans (Week 7; 11): Attendance is important for the students' benefit. 2. There is a Blackboard Discussion board in which students are encouraged to take part for discussions about the course work. This forum is actively monitored. Marking Criteria The following items are considered. Students can use these items as a checklist to improve their performance. 1. There is evidence that the analysis is based on quality research and justified data 2. There is identification of team communication issues using the language of business modelling 3. There is novelty/ innovation to the analysis and modelling 4. The causal loop diagram does have a justifiable boundary 5. There is attention to the principles of labelling in developing the model 6. Feedback loops are identified and illustrated 7. There is consideration of important time delays in developing the model 8. Short and long-term consequences of variables and actions are identified and modelled 9. The report illustrates understanding of the use of Vensim 10. There is evidence that the analysis and model development is based on real empirical data 11. The model variables and boundary are defined 12. The quantification of variables and mechanisms is done 13. The report documents equations, estimations, and assumptions used in modelling 14. The report discusses model's behaviour under different conditions and over time 15. The model's response is tested under different, possible policies 16. The report translates study insights to actionable insights for future. 17. The report has adequate text, images, and tables 18. The report is
