Assessment details for all students Assessment item 3—Written Assignment 3 Due date: Week 12 – Friday ASSESSMENT Weighting: 60% 3 Length: 4000 words (plus or minus 10%) Objectives This assessment is based upon the course learning modules 1 - 11 of the study guide. In answering the questions students will relate the course learning's and theoretical processes to their own organisation or facility. Assignment Submission The assignment should be written in a report format and include: • An executive summary, introduction, body and conclusion. • Headings and sub headings where appropriate in the body of the discussion using appropriate numbers and font size. • Tables, Graphs, Charts and Screen shots should be used where appropriate to support your discussion. • Accurately reference the work of 3rd parties, words, Figures/Tables etc. in accordance with the CQUniversity's Harvard referencing guide. • References should be added at the end of the assignment and documented according to CQU referencing standards. Electronic File Submission Format • Assignments must be submitted electronically (in "word" format NOT pdf) in Moodle • When saving your assignments on Moodle, ensure you use the following file format, Example - 'Albert Jones_s024789 _ENMM20025_Assignment 1' This assignment is intended to have students critic and review elements of the maintenance strategy within their organisation/facility. Question 1. Asset Life Plans (15 marks) Utilising the TDBUA for an asset or unit identify a MAXIMUM 50 components and prepare a life plan for the identified components from within your organisation. Both mechanical and electrical components should be incorporated within your answer. In your response you should include references to discussions with relevant persons within the organisation along with tables and diagrams where appropriate to support your discussion. 1. Construct a process flow diagram and establish an asset inventory for an assembly determined critical to the organisation. (as per section 8.2.2) 2. Detail the asset/unit operating characteristics and the production policy (as per section 8.2.2) 3. Assemble the identified maintenance tasks in the form of a unit life plan (as per Table 6.9 and Table 8.3) 4. Determine the need for spare parts inventory items for the asset/unit and 5. Explain and outline how rotables are controlled within the organisation. Question 2. Preventative Maintenance Optimisation (21 marks) Through the use of an analytical methodology carry out an optimisation of the current preventative maintenance tasks of an asset determined as critical from the criticality analysis of Question 2 of Assignment 2. 1. Outline the optimisation process (Reliability Centred Maintenance - RCM, Failure reporting and corrective action system (FRACAS) or Judgement based approach) utilised to determine the most effective PM optimisation methodology for the selected asset. 2. Determine and outline in tabular form the current preventative maintenance schedule for the selected asset. 3. Carry out an evaluation and optimisation of the current preventative maintenance schedule removing elements of, o tasks that fail to add value or actually create problems through the application of intrusive tasks, o ambiguity of maintenance tasks, o elimination of redundant time-directed tasks currently being completed through the use of condition monitoring/predictive maintenance tasks, o Refinement of tasks to eliminate tasks that can be completed utilising TPM. 4. Provide a table comparing the previous preventative maintenance schedule and the optimised preventative maintenance schedules. 5. Provide a discussion and outline in a table the preventative maintenance tasks repositioned within a developed TPM program. Question 3. Lean Principles (13 marks) Identify and discuss the application of lean philosophies within the maintenance strategies of the students organisation. Your answer should include the following elements, 1. Identification and description of 5 lean philosophies, 2. Outline and discuss the application of lean philosophies utilised within the maintenance strategies of the student's organisation. 3. Identify and discuss how 3 additional elements of lean can be applied to your work place. Grammar and Technical Presentation (11 marks) Assessment Criteria This is a criterion -based assessment item.
